Apr 21, 2021 17:50

Greetings, ONTD.
It's been a while. I'm back after an ONTD hiatus for the 11th installment of the ONTD Original Series: Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Today, I'm doing an installment that reflects what I've needed over the past few weeks: Episodes with Powerful Messages.

I love Xander's speech to Dawn in Potential. for a total dumbass he does often have a way with words 😂

I'd pick Chosen tbh. Say what you will about the last season but it is a perfect series finale for the show!

Agreed re: Chosen. Often season 7 (especially the middle) was marred; the pronounced focus on the potentials came at the expense of other characters (I.E.-Anya was wasted in 7 IMO) but the series finale was perfect and encapsulated the series and it’s message at its best. I also loved the last question to Buffy “what are we gonna do now?” For the first time ever, Buffy actually has a choice. She can “go be a normal girl” now like she often wanted and let the other christened Slayers share the work, or she can continue herself. But she has the choice and the world is no longer entirely on her shoulders. I LOVED (and still do) that!

Selfless is one of my favorite episodes of season 7 because Anya finally got a chance to shine and then after that it's like they didn't know what to do with her, it was such a shame.

Buffy's smile in the last shot of the show is just perfection. I can't with people who would prefer The Gift as the series finale. I actually think it's a better episode but I want Buffy thriving not dead!

I agree. <3 Chosen is a good one. I don't hate season 7 entirely, but I have to admit that it's one of my less favorites. Mainly because I don't like the storyline of the potentials, and I don't like the focus on them. Nor do I particularly enjoy who her friends become (although IMO, they just show their true colors we'd only seen brief glimpses of in earlier seasons, but, I digress). There are some gems in season 7, but for the most part, I think consistency-wise, I tend to stick with seasons 1-5. 6 was a good one, but it seemed disjointed and the "real big bad" at the end was just such a rapid arc, and it was sad because even though she was super bad, I just wanted to see so much more of Dark Willow...lol.

Some really good choices. I will say I really liked Anne when it first aired, seeing Buffy try to run from a title that caused her so much pain only to realize she can't run from who she is. It handled Buffy's emotions much better than the season 2 opener tried to.

<3 Needed a break. Did some annoying soul searching nonsense (ridiculous to say about ONTD posts, tbh) but I noticed my previous posts were getting a little negative and unnecessarily harsh, so I needed a breather from all things internet. <3
I just finished a term in grad school with all A's, and I'm in a great place right now, so I figure: no time like the present! Haha

Ia. it reminds me of the way less showy eps like I Only Have Eyes for You, Lie to Me or Beauty and the Beasts touched upon difficult lessons about trust, forgiveness and love in a subtler but really impactful way

Was Checkpoint the episode where she gets Giles back pay?

Because that moment was so amusing.

Yes. Giles gets paid and Buffy, who risks her life every single night, gets nothing.

I never thought of it like that.

That's some bull!

She really should have demanded they pay her, especially after Joyce died and she started having money issues. If they can pay the watcher (who also had another paying job and then his own business...) there's no reason they couldn't have paid her! But also, like where do they even get their funding?? lol
