Being a child in this industry is always to be damaging in some way or other

Parents who push for their kids to be famous are always suspect, and especially ones like Billy Ray who are in the industry themselves and know firsthand how it operates

it’s also weird to me that they didn’t give her non-hannah character a new name. it was miley cyrus playing miley stewart. that has to get weird when you’re doing it 8+ hours a day on shooting schedules or s/t

I guess they did the same thing with Raven too. I’m trying to think of the others.

I do hope she's learned from previous mistakes, especially the racist ones. I feel like the industry really did get to her and the Bangerz era was an astonishing mess. I think it was wise she divorced Liam tbh.

Never saw the Bangerz era like that before but it makes sense, coming out of Disney and trying to find out who you are as an entertainer without that machine behind you must mess you up in a way.

Bangerz Miley was so racist and gross that I really cannot enjoy anything she creates now. That era was the first time I "noticed" her, and it was some performance she did where her dancers were dressed as caricature black women, and she was smacking them on their butts, I think (?)

In theory stuff she does now are up my alley, but just always think of Bangerz :(((((((

Not surprised, when your fanbase are kids and they believe you are who you portray on TV and therefore have to act like that in real life it must mess you up. Still doesn't excuse the Bangerz/Terry Richardson era tho.

Yeah...I can see it. I was too old to watch and appreciate Hanna Montana as a fan when it came out, but too young to understand its popularity independent of liking it myself. So, it continues to be a mystery to me how it was SOOOOO popular.

Right place, right time. I think it had been a while since Disney channel had a huge hit at time. Plus she had really good pop songs so that helps with marketing + it was a good show.

Prior to that it was Lizzie Maguire and That’s so Raven. But it surpassed Lizzie Maguire’s big mainstream success.

Yeah, it definitely did! I was the right age for Lizzie Maguire and really liked it, but HM seemed like Frozen level popular.

There is no way this level of popularity does not mess with the young star's identity. Not to mentioned that weird premise, and the fact that she was kinda actually playing herself.

Lizzie has always been a better show to me.
