There's actually a private social media service for the social media staff of major brands where they coordinate shit like this. Almost 100% of it is planned out in advance (I suspect the Lionsgate one wasn't since it got deleted). It's run by a company called GasPedal. Their website obscures that it's what they do but I got pretty far along in the hiring process a couple years ago and that's how I found out.

i admit i thought it was fun when the denny's (or ihop? idk) twitter account was funny and the hamburger helper brand released a mixtape because it was novel then. clicking on a tweet and seeing twelve corporate accounts replying to each other is like seeing a bunch of bots reply emojis on IG or when we used to get the russian bot comments here lmao
