I haven't eaten pork in a really long time because of something I saw. A semi truck carrying a load of pigs was driving too fast, slammed on the brakes and all of the pigs went flying in the load. I was walking my dog nearby when it happened and the screams of the pigs really affected and haunted me. I know it's stupid to say but the realization that they are beings with independent thought and feelings, experiencing pain, came from that.

Im not completely vegetarian but do try to limit my other meat consumption. As I get older, I'm also starting to learn about the environmental impacts of eating too much meat, as well as how lobbies for the industry influence our diet. We should all educate ourselves on that.

My god, that must have been terrifying. I can't say I blame you at all for being impacted by that.

This actually made me tear up. That must have been awful to see and hear.

I respect the heck out of this. I also wish I wasn't so selfish to not make a real effort to eliminate meat and dairy from my life. It's a very hard thing to start doing.

Maybe try to ease your way into it but not cutting out both meat and dairy? I know the dairy industry is also shit but maybe just try vegetarianism to find your groove, the recipes you like and the things that keep you full, and then slowly start to cut back on dairy. I'm in the process of rolling back dairy myself so I know it's a challenge. Even trying makes a difference, honestly, if more people ate less meat and dairy even if they don't fully stop consuming it it would still be a net positive.

I know a lot of people on ONTD hate vegetarians, but fuck it. Even though I'm far from perfect, it's still better than doing nothing and being apathetic, or simply not caring. I respect him so much for giving his voice to those who don't have it.

people who make snide comments all the time about vegans/vegetarians are annoying.

People can get so defensive when they hear I'm a vegetarian, as though it's a judgment on them that I don't eat meat. As though they are any sort of factor at all in that. It's the weirdest knee jerk reaction.

Or "but bacon der her her!!!1!" (or equivalent) is the other go-to response. So dumb, like jfc.

They’re judgemental because they know they’re doing something that’s not beneficial and you remind them of it and nobody likes to be reminded they’re uhm actively contributing to climate change really

I think my mind/body is forcing me into veganism lately. I work with someone who is vegan and is a wealth of information for different herbal remedies and he has been giving me a ton of info lately to help me out with some health issues i want to address so I’ve been toying with the idea.
But now each time I think of eating meat (I’ve never been a fan of red meat) I get nauseas.
