Joaquin Phoenix skipped the #SAGAwards night's other big party thrown by Netflix at Sunset Tower to head to Vernon, Calif., site of a local slaughterhouse, so he could join animal rights activists in comforting pigs on their way to the slaughter line https://t.co/Zzhqpd9Xo7

After briefly celebrating his SAG win with the other celebrities, Joaquin Pheonix headed to Vernon, California, site of a local slaughterhouse, to join animal rights activists who were comforting pigs on their way to the slaughter line, still wearing his tuxedo. The vigil was organised by the group Los Angeles Animal Save, whose members were on hand to provide water, comfort and support to the animals.

The actor said: “Most people don’t really know of the torture and murder in the meat and dairy industry.[...] “We have moral obligations to talk about it and expose it for what it really is. We are so indoctrinated with these happy images of animals on farms, on the covers of meat containers, at restaurants, and it’s a lie. I think people need to know the truth and we have an obligation to do that.”

ONTD cynics will chalk this up to his Oscar campaigning, but I'm glad that he's using his current spotlight to showcase this issue.
