Jon Stewart is such a gift to this country. I know he did so much during the Bush years with his show and still does a lot behind the scenes, but I wish he would come back with some regular platform to stand up to Trump and this government before the 2020 elections.

The rage this fills me with. My cousin was in the Pentagon on 9/11 & rescued people from it and was diagnosed with cancer from it. My stepfather was a firefighter (not in 9/11) but has had cancer twice from his career (on top of collapsed lungs, broken bones, etc). Take care of the people that are willing to run into danger to save others. What kind of monster do you have to be to think otherwise?

I'm thankful for their service and sorry for what they've been through.

i come from a firefighting family (grandpa, uncles, stepdad, cousins) and honestly it's such a thankless job that people just expect you to do. First thing to go in city elections is public service contracts and benefits.

I feel like I'm responding to a lot of your comments, but don't a lot of smaller communities just have volunteer EMS/firefighters? At least sizable cities are able to pay people to staff those positions rather than relying on volunteers that are juggling other jobs and whatnot.

Good on Jon for pointing out the hypocrisy the Conservatives going "support our police and firefighters/never forget 9/11" and then not actually providing support to the people who did respond to 9/11.

I still thank my lucky stars that my late maternal grandfather barely missed dying in the World Trade Center because a late meeting in New Jersey made him take a different train to NYC that didn't end in the WTC basement.

My uncle and sister are both 9/11 survivors. My uncle is in remission from a 9/11 related cancer and my sister has developed respiratory problems I’m positive are a direct result from all the toxic air she breathed during her escape and in the following weeks/months. I wrote letters to our state and local representatives on my uncle’s behalf asking that this be extended. So many people are just now developing health issues as a result and many more will continue to cause point blank the air was toxic. First responders did their jobs not just on that day, but in the weeks after as it continued to burn. People who worked downtown were still expected to show up. What do you think has happened to them as a result? That the government basically dgaf about these people is shameful. To not even show up for the hearing is beyond disrespectful. These hypocrites are the worst. So quick to praise first responders for a photo op or in the aftermath of an emergency but when it comes time to take care of them, they don’t do shit. I’m glad Jon has ( ... )
