I can't stand the sound of people plopping but I am okay with "slurping". In japan its part of their culture and shows respect to the chef who prepared the food.
Unless you're in Japan, a Japanese restuarant thats frequented by Japanese people, you really won't encounter "slurping"
So in conclusion like the tourists complaining about this: Stay away from asian Establishments or countries if you can't deal with their "customs"
I have sensory headphones that I wear whenever I know I'll be around people eating (ie. everyday at home). I'm autistic and misophonia is one of my things.
But also, a sound sensitivity disorder is totally different than people being like "ew you don't eat properly" because they expect people to change their cultural norms to make white tourists feel comfortable.
I respect your stance... I once went to a ramen shop with someone who has misophonia. He flipped out because of the slurping (and yes, he knows that people slurp when they eat ramen) and was belligerent the rest of the evening because everyone should have to eat quietly due to his misophonia.
