I spent 2 weeks in Tokyo a few years ago and

1. Never noticed anybody slurping noodles because it’s not like you’re eating in a super quiet restaurant + it’s fun to slurp and not worry about it

2. Enjoyed being immersed in another culture and being the visitor getting to enjoy said culture

In conclusion fuck da tourists who don’t like it

Honestly one of my biggest dreams is to eat in countries where they care slightly less about Westernized table manners.

There some countries where burping after a meal shows you appreciated it;

Come to Korea! People chew loudly, smack their lips, slurp anything that can be slurped, and also use only one big dish that everyone eats from (yes, including soup. Put that spoon in the soup, then into your mouth, and then back into the soup).

I think it's safe to say I've become desensitized to mouth sounds after a couple of years here, lol.

Who cares if it's gross or not. Their country, their rules. If you don't want to experience different things ever you stay at home.

My brother has misophonia but he's also a huge weeb and has admitted that he'd have to get over it quick if he actually wants to live there which seems like the right route to take as a tourist/guest in their country. As for me, mouth sounds don't really bother me except for the click of someone's nail against their teeth when they bite their nails repeatedly within the span of a few minutes. But I have a huge problem with repetitive noises like beeping or dripping or people drumming on tables without rhythm.

Mostly this just sounds like white people have a weird prudishness around table manners which yeah that absolutely tracks.

I hate loud slurping noises but even worse is when people make a little moaning noise when they eat something really good and it makes me shiver ugh

I wish I could slurp, but I just make a giant mess and would need to shower afterward. I do the method where you use your chopsticks to put the noodles in your spoon.
