What a ridiculous thing to be annoyed about. Like why even travel there then?

I'm Chinese American so yes I'm pro-slurp.

So if I have Misophonia, am I still being ridiculous?

I can't stand the sound of people plopping but I am okay with "slurping". In japan its part of their culture and shows respect to the chef who prepared the food.

Unless you're in Japan, a Japanese restuarant thats frequented by Japanese people, you really won't encounter "slurping"

So in conclusion like the tourists complaining about this: Stay away from asian Establishments or countries if you can't deal with their "customs"

I have sensory headphones that I wear whenever I know I'll be around people eating (ie. everyday at home). I'm autistic and misophonia is one of my things.

But also, a sound sensitivity disorder is totally different than people being like "ew you don't eat properly" because they expect people to change their cultural norms to make white tourists feel comfortable.

Have misophonia. Have also lived in Japan, currently live in China. Both are places where they slurp their noodles.

Yes, you are being ridiculous.

Yeah, I've got to live with slurping, and while I don't enjoy the sound, I'm not living in my own culture. I'm a guest here. I've had to learn to deal.

Besides, a good, honest slurp is a lot easier to bear than lip-smacking. Ugh, lip-smacking!
