The awards hype for Ozark and The Kominsky Method remains a mystery to me.

Honestly same, i loved Alan Arkin there and Michael does a good job but the show on itself isn't really that great?? i do agree with Alan's nom but besides that? nah, and the love ozark/Jason Bateman gets… nah.

I’m convinced that the Bateman noms stem from people feeling like he never really got the award recognition he deserved while on AD and trying to make up for it now. It’s like if Steve Carrell ever came back to TV - I bet he’d get nominated for blowing his nose because they feel bad that he got overlooked so many times while on The Office (which was a travesty tbh).

honestly it wouldn't surprised me if it's just because the studios campaigned them heavily. I feel like that's more effective for TV than movies 'cause like… enough industry people can probably find the time to watch enough of the ~20-30 movies that get buzzed every year but who the eff that's working film industry hours actually has time to watch enough of the buzzy TV shows that they're "supposed" to before nominating shit.

If they were going to go hard for a horror film, it should have been Hereditary not A Quiet Place.

And this year sucked for a big end of year sci fi spectacular. The recent past has brought a movie that o wait all year for - Gravity, Interstellar, The Martian - and zilch this year. And I don't mean comic book adaptations, I mean standalone science fiction spectacles.

Even last year I was super excited for the shape of water.

And last year we had Blade Runner 2049. I miss my big October sci fo splash.
