Moby Dick

I have stumbled upon a documentary about Herman Meville. It is absolutely chilling. It discusses a great length the story of a shipwreck (the Essex) that involves canabalism and more. It has compelled me to take a third shot at Moby Dick. Anna Quinlan says that all managers and executives should read that instead of the mass of management books ( Read more... )

although it took me a few chapters to catch the rhythm, once i did, i really enjoyed moby dick. i've been reading ahab's wife off and on for forever now, too. maybe that will be the next book i finish, but i doubt it. i have to been in just the right mood to pick it up.

I was watching that too. I got a little squeamish in the last 20 minutes or so. Blegh.

Or maybe it's the idea of reading Melville. Love his poetry, but having to read Billy Budd was just gratuitous torture :)

moby dick is awesome. i read it over the course of a year or so by sticking a copy in my car and pulling it out whenever i got stuck waiting for something. it's the perfect book for that, because there's no chance of getting lost or forgetting what's going on: "where are they? on the boat. what's going on? they're looking for the whale. go!"
