So, today is the first day of spring, and it's also the day that I taught myself how to spin using a drop spindle. :-D ( Read more... )

yarn, spontaneity, spinning, fibery goodness

Yay! What a lovely mother-in-law gift, too--she obviously knows you and likes you ;) Can't wait to see what crazy and beautiful yarns you're coming up with soon!

Also, I love that song, it makes me happy (although it also makes me want to drive around with the windows down--not exactly possible while it's pouring rain for a month straight!)

It was a really thoughtful gift -- she put in a couple of larger rovings, but also a bunch of little "tasters" of a variety of fibers, which I'm really looking forward to playing with.

It's funny, I JUST discovered Florence and the Machine, and I really love what I've heard so far. The beat is fantastic! It was just barely warm enough last Thursday/Friday to drive with the windows down, but not today... It's snowing, and according to the weather report, it's not likely to break 45 degrees at all this week.

I really only knew the one song from them (I can't remember where I heard it, but I liked it enough to make Josh listen to it a couple months ago!) Then just tonight I heard "I'm Not Calling You a Liar" (if you haven't heard it, it's worth a listen on youtube). I really like her voice and I'm sure I'll end up buying the CD pretty soon.

Ha at being able to drive with the windows down last week =P It hasn't been that cold here (it's been over 60 a couple days) but I haven't seen it go more than an hour or two without POURING rain in like...two weeks. It's good though, we really need the water, and I do like the rain, but a chance to dry out would be good too!

Look at that! I got giddy when I realised that was a spindle with awesome yarn (it looks amazing for a first shot!)
Go you! *happy dance* If you need *any* help I'll be glad to help out!
What type of wool are you spinning?

I'm going to have to be 100% honest and let you know that when it comes to spindles I'm really not experienced. I learned on one, but quickly moved to a wheel. Have you been to www.joyofhandspinning.com ? It's a great site. Youtube has some good videos, but you have to weed through a lot of bad as well. Also if you check my groups on ravelry I'm in a kabillion spinning groups, I know there are some just for spindlers as well

Aww, all my illusions are shattered... you don't know EVERYTHING about spinning??? :-P

I'll definitely check that website out, and same with the ravelry groups. :-)

How very cool! In an old-school kind of way... (Actually I do love how many hand-work kinds of things are coming back, even as technology moves forward.)

Actually, it was pretty cool to realize that I was doing the exact same thing (with pretty much the exact same tool) that people have been doing for CENTURIES. :-)
