This weekend was a busy one as we ventured into the city for Brisbane Open House. This year was the first time this event has taken place and 20 venues were on offer to visit for free. For years I've toured the country and the only view I have a theater is of backstage and the audience from onstage. I've not been to many of the lobbies of the buildings where I've spent so much time. I love the view from the wings and onstage; it feels so much like home. It's fun to see it portrayed in your pictures. Now, you understand how I feel, why I love the theater so much!

HUGS!

As a kid I did a reasonable amount of amateur dramatics so have some experience of being on the other side...but this was a 'real' theatre with 2000 seats. I'd love to see you performing and singing Neil!

And what type columns are on the Masonic Temple and the Custom House dad?
I would suggest that the classical revival was influenced by Roman art and architecture, especially the Pantheon - the style of the mosaic floor, in the opus tesselatum style by the looks of it, and the domus and oecus of the custom house roof.

Guess who has Classics on the brain! HAHA

All looks lovely, I imagine it was an intersting to visit them all.

LOL...they are bloody great big columns! They'd be Corinthian. It was really interesting to be able to visit all these places..and even better cos they were free and some venues not always open to the public.

Corinthian they are! I am so impressed that you now know your column orders! The joys of having a classicist in the family!!

You're very welcome Craig. Of course we don't have the wealth of old historical buildings that exists in the UK, but at least some have been preserved and this Open House concept has been great for allowing us to have a peek.
