[Challenge][Y][FF] Summary: Before, it had been simple curiosity that evolved into a want. Now, though his emotions are puzzling, he finds that he at least understands these classic signs.

---

A slight cringe, muffled cries, three very sore bruises - big ones - and he still wasn't convinced that, just maybe, he had gone just a bit too far.

Yet as he knocked on the door of their apartment, Henry felt that the few bandages on his neck and arms were reasons enough. Even if he knew Ryeowook wouldn't agree with his motives, seeing it solely as another reason to pick fights outside.

Ryeowook gasped, "What did you do?!"

Henry walked in and stumbled onto the couch as Ryeowook rushed over to help him. "I think you're aware of what I did already..." He waited as Ryeowook surveyed his array of cuts and bruises and opened the first aid kit.

"I can't believe you did this. I told you that I was fine."

Henry winced as Ryeowook patched up his cheek. "It's ironic that I have to save my own guardian angel."

"I'm sorry..." Ryeowook apologized. "I wanted to tell them that there was more to life other than crime and that I could help."

Henry arched an eyebrow. "You said my happiness was your only motivation; your only reason for being here."

"...I did." Ryeowook pursed his lips. "When I said that, I meant it."

"Am I not problematic enough for you to take care of?"

"It's my obligation to help them." Ryeowook said.

"You're my guardian angel," Henry asserted. He instantly grabbed for his wrist, catching Ryeowook slightly off-guard as he held it tightly in his hand. "No one else's."

Henry released his hand as he stood up from the seat, walking around it towards the bedroom when he turned around and flashed a confident smile. "Don't go against it." With that, he walked into the bedroom.

Ryeowook turned away as he heard the soft sounds of water and knew he was taking a shower. He started to pat his chest repeatedly, trying to calm his rapid heartbeat. "Watching over him is a lot harder than I thought it'd be."

"It's not that difficult." He raised his head to see Siwon standing across from him in the living room. He stood out amongst the dark furniture with his white clothing. "Isn't this what you wanted? Especially after you demoted yourself just because you fell in love with this guy."

Ryeowook bit his bottom lip as his eyes trailed over to the bedroom door, he started to pat his heart a little harder. "It's hard not to..."

"Yes..." Siwon gave a uneasy look. "I can see how difficult it was not to be charmed by him."

Ryeowook inwardly smiled. "But it's hard feeling so powerless. Sometimes when I see the trouble he gets into, I can't help but worry constantly."

"Except," Siwon smiled knowingly. "That's not the only part that is bothering you."

Ryeowook lowered his head as he began to fidget with his hands. "It's just some feelings I'm fighting with at the moment. Some feelings I just wish would just go away."

Siwon gave a slight nod, prompting him to continue.

Ryeowook sighed as he focused on the floor, deciding to confide his worries to Siwon. "Every time he's with his friend, my heart feels as if it's being pinched. I know it's a good thing for him to socialize; to not be tempted by the lifestyle he used to lead. But every time he's around him, my heart hurts and it feels like it's breaking."

Siwon chuckled. "Emotions are a price all humans have to pay."

Ryeowook sighed solemnly at that thought as he lifted his head and stared at the wrinkled newspaper lying on the wooden table before him. He reached for it and glanced through the ads.

"Maybe it's best if I distance myself for a little while. At least I can control my emotions a little better." Ryeowook smiled optimistically as he looked through each ad. "Do you think that'll work?"

His expression dropped when he realized Siwon was no longer in the living room. "Thank you!" He said loudly, slightly exasperated.

After minutes of flipping through the papers, he closed them as he heard the sound of water stopping. He tentatively stood up from the couch and walked over to the bedroom door, knocking softly.

"Come in."

Ryeowook took a deep breath as he slowly opened the door, watching as Henry put on a t-shirt and sat on the bed. Henry laid on top of the covers, looking back at Ryeowook who stood still by the door.

He patted the spot beside him. "Do I have to tell you everything?"

Ryeowook grinned as he rushed over, but cautiously sat beside him as the bed dipped. He was tempted to snuggle against him, but Henry's injuries made him hesitant to do so. Instead he leaned against the headboard, gazing at Henry as he slowly fell into a slumber once he settled down.

The angel reached over and pulled the covers over him, covering his lower body as he tucked him in, doing his best until he seemed content. His eyes glanced over at the small windows of the apartment; the view blocked entirely by a thick brick wall.

Yet he noticed the few birds that flew by, their wings flapping loudly, momentarily recalling those fading memories.

In the early hours of the morning, Henry slowly stirred awake and looked out to see dark shadows outside. He heard sounds and turned around to see Ryeowook in the same position from before.

"Why aren't you asleep?" Henry asked groggily.

Ryeowook gave a small smile. "I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

Henry furrowed his eyebrows as he propped himself on his elbow, recognizing the sound of rustling papers in his hands. He raised his head and read the various titles and listings that was spread across his lap.

"Why are you looking at apartments?" Henry asked with a stoic expression. "Are you planning on moving out?"

Ryeowook parted his lips to reply, "Well... I was thinking-"

Henry didn't bother to listen to his explanation as he reached out and ripped the newspaper into two.

"Don't you dare move out," He warned as he threw them to the side of the bed. "The money from your part-time job isn't enough to support yourself."

"Then I'll just get another job!" Ryeowook interjected.

"Your resume will surely impress him. Guardian angel who tries to help individuals return to the right path."

Ryeowook lowered his head. "I'm just... I'm trying to... I really am!"

"Simply trying isn't enough in this world." Henry replied, looking out from the corner of his eyes at Ryeowook's pout.

He leaned forward and pulled him down beside him on the bed, holding him as close as he could as they laid against the cool sheets. They stayed in that silence until Henry parted his lips.

"Despite how much you annoy me, I think you're my only actual friend."

Ryeowook wasn't sure whether to feel flattered over the comment. But beamed nevertheless despite the solemn sound of that statement.

"Although I can't disregard Yesung either..."

Ryeowook immediately glowered. "I don't like him."

Henry arched an eyebrow as he reached over Ryeowook towards the glass bowl on the wooden bedside table. "I didn't think guardian angels could be jealous."

Ryeowook widened his eyes as Henry focused the item in his hand. "I-I would never! Besides, my feelings are already acting up. Jealously wouldn't do any goo-"

Henry stuffed a piece of candy in his mouth. He waited patiently as he watched his eyes gradually widened and the ecstatic expression that appeared on his face. He then handed him another piece of the strawberry flavored sweets. "I'm assuming you never had any. Sweets are the best way to relieve stress of any kind." He explained.

"My emotions can really be calmed down by just sweets alone? That doesn't make sense..." Ryeowook gave a doubtful look. "These emotions are difficult to understand. They're all still new to me."

"I guess Earth tends to do that to you." Henry commented casually; his eyes in a near daze because of his tiredness.

"Maybe..." Ryeowook murmured as he ate another piece, speaking to himself quietly. "But I don't see how can you love more than one thing. I love sweets. Fruits. Music. And I love him. Is it possible to love so many things at the same time?"

Henry chuckled. "Who are you in love with?"

"You." Ryeowook replied simply as he finished the piece in his mouth, looking up only to see his dumbfounded expression.

Henry blinked while studying his expectant expression and swallowed slightly. "I think you're confusing yourself."

"No." Ryeowook stated clearly. "Except I think my love for you is different from what I feel for those other things."

Henry gave a slightly bitter smile as Ryeowook listed his various loves. "You don't love me." He concluded.

"Yes I do." Ryeowook insisted. Henry remained silently doubtful.

Ryeowook then reached for Henry's hand and placed it over his chest, locking with his eyes as he said, "It's only when I'm around you does my heart beat like this."

Henry inwardly bit his cheeks. His eyes staring at the gesture a little longer than he intended to.

Ryeowook then switched and placed his own hand over Henry's chest who in turn gave him a questioning look. "I wanted to see if your heart does the same when I'm around."

"Is it acting as you hoped?" Henry asked. Ryeowook pouted.

"No." Ryeowook sighed. "This means you don't feel the same."

Henry watched as Ryeowook sulked against his chest, struggling somewhat from restlessness and disappointment.

"Or my heart doesn't overreact like yours seems to." Henry said as he ran his fingers through his hair.

Ryeowook didn't seem to like that answer. Henry smiled and shifted slightly so that Ryeowook's head laid against his arm. The small guardian angel noticed the bothered look that traced Henry's features, waiting until Henry finally spoke up.

"You missed being one of them, don't you?"

He took note of Henry's subtle but apologetic look, slowly but surely overtaken by sleep. "Yes... Sometimes."

"Losing your wings because of me hardly seemed worth it." Henry said quietly; his eyes closing despite his attempts at staying awake.

Ryeowook gently placed a hand on his cheek, cradling it as he smiled softly at his peaceful expression.

"I'm sorry."

Henry closed his eyes after he murmured his apology, shifting until he laid comfortably against the pillow. Ryeowook smiled to himself as he moved closer, his hand settling against his chest. He knew from the pounding of his own heart that he would be miserable; even with his angel status.

Henry was worthy of every sacrifice he had ever made whether he believed it or not.

He knew that despite what he had said; that his heart had reacted differently around him; that this feeling, despite its complicated and intimidating nature, was the purest emotion he had ever felt. He was grateful to Henry that he was able to experience such an emotion.

"I'll make you happy." Ryeowook reassured as he placed his hand over Henry's chest. "I'll do whatever it takes to make sure of that."

He raised his head slightly as he placed a gentle kiss on Henry's forehead.

He chuckled quietly to himself when he realized Henry's heart had beat faster, reacting swiftly to his affectionate actions. He smiled contentedly as he laid back against him, falling asleep to the sound of his heartbeat that had soothed him to a comfortable sleep.

For even without the sounds of wings, he felt as if he was soaring when he felt his fluttering heart react. Those sounds alone were truly enough.
