Maybe some of the weight gain is due to gaining muscle from the additional training you're doing?

That's a good point, but in my case I'm doing way less strength training than normal and some of my non-stretchy clothes are not fitting me. Even my 'fat jeans' are tight!

Bah. I know when I first started regular cardio workouts (which I MUST get back to next week, assuming this cold is better!), I found that I was really hungry afterwards and it was harder to control what I ate. I found that having plenty of water and a high-protein snack straight away after my post-workout shower (e.g. a few slices of cooked meat or a couple of hard-boiled eggs) seemed to help stop me feeling quite so ravenous.

My problem isn't with hunger, it's with an abuse of food as an emotion-numbing drug. Thanks for the suggestions - I already drink a lot (including home-made sports drinks before/after long runs) and eat the right sort of food post workout. It's the evenings that are a problem, and days when I'm resting or too ill to exercise.
