I hardly speak the queen's English myself

I had a bit of a dilemma last week. I put a couple of things up on freecycle, and one of the first responses was from someone who wrote to me in txtspeak. I just couldn't bring myself to reply to her, I was so creeped out by a stranger using txtspeak on me. a) They were trying to get something for free from me, b) they wanted my box of books. I don't think anyone has any right to query how you give away things through Freecycle; it's up to you.

Sure: I did tell her though. The least controversial response would have been just to tell her that it had already gone.

Good for you! Not unreasonable at all. Now when people go "text speak never harms anyone" she'll be able to say "Well it stopped me getting some books". Or "wl it stpped mi gtn sm bks" or something. Your books, your high horse, stay right on it. Who do you think you are? The person who gets to arbitrate where your belongings go. Don't like it? Tough shit, scrounger. (Not that I have anything against people accepting stuff off Freecycle else I'd not give stuff away through it - it's just you owe her nothing, and she's getting peeved at you whilst, essentially, begging.)

I think that's great that you made such a good point. I can totally understand your frustration. We have a great language and it's not that hard to learn how to use it properly!!

Personally i refuse to write to any email written in Comic Sans MS font. It's just a personal peeve that i have! If someone wants to talk to me, they can please use a grown-up font not a playschool one! ;)

Ah I'm have a different opinion of Comic SMS - I hate it in presentations that people make, but use it myself for my financial records. It seems a little friendlier somehow.

Heh, well if you like it for your own use i guess that's fine.

I feel a bit embarassed about this - i must sound like such a snob! But i really do think Comic Sans has a place, and it is *not* in corporate emails! ;)

your stance seems fair enough to me. i'm sure i've not given people stuff i've offered on freecycle for similar reasons!
