Football seems to be a popular choice.

[Though by "football" he means soccer. Blame being raised in Europe]

Yeah? Personal favorite, too, or'd you just pick that outta the hat?

No offense or anything, but you don't look like much of a football guy.

[ Damn you Europeans and your confusing sports names. ]

That's more for the winter, isn't it?

Hey now, you can't count seasonal problems against it, that's just bein' prejudiced.

I guess there's not a lotta choice about it here, though. No ice rinks.

[He's lazing on the roof, bored as all hell, basking in the sun and watching people come and go on the path leading into town.]

Wonder what it'd take to start a hockey team. I mean, we got a lake, and I know it got froze over last winter.

[There's a moment's pause]

Not sayin' we'll be here that long, though.

[ Good day for being bored. Also now he'll totally be thinking of this forever. ]

Course we won't.

[ Hrm. ] Need enough people who'd wanna play, for starters. Get the right equipment, teach 'em the rules. [ ...pfffthaha, rules. ] Definitely need a place for practice when it ain't winter. Many people as there are that ain't even heard of it around here? They'd be hopeless.

Must get borin' back home for 'em.

Guess you'll just hafta start askin' around. Seems like all people do around here is get up in each other's business with these journals. I bet you could get enough people to try it; mix things up a little.

There's football and baseball in my world. And people watch the chuunin exams as part of a sporting event.

[... that's actually football as in soccer.]

Whaddaya know, some things really are universal. Might be able to scrape up more than a couple teams around here. So those exams are big on spectators too, yeah?

I've never really had a chance to practice either.

The final part of the exams, anyways. That's when the genin--lower leveled ninja--are pitted against each other in combat. It's to test if they have the skill and strategy to command a squad. Of course, most of the kids just assume if they beat each other up, they win, but that's the tricky part.

But yes, big on spectators. Since genin from all the villages were participating, people would come from all over to watch from every walk of life. And some would even place bets.

Ahh, got nothin' but time in a place like this one.

[ ...ninja. :| He always ends up associating with ninja. ] Win the fight but not the prize. Nice way to send on a lesson, I guess.

Never been too big on bettin', myself. If you're gonna watch, watch for the game.

You ever play Quidditch?

Nope. [ But it is a sport and now he's intrigued. ]

What's the idea?

Well, each team has got seven players, and they try to get a ball called the Quaffle through the goals while avoiding getting hit by the other team's Bludgers. It can get a little rough sometimes, especially if people fall off their brooms, but it's pretty brilliant.
