You ever play Quidditch?

Nope. [ But it is a sport and now he's intrigued. ]

What's the idea?

Well, each team has got seven players, and they try to get a ball called the Quaffle through the goals while avoiding getting hit by the other team's Bludgers. It can get a little rough sometimes, especially if people fall off their brooms, but it's pretty brilliant.

...brooms, huh.

Ye-... oh. Right. Muggles don't use brooms for that.

Barely use brooms for sweepin'. Nothin' on you, kid.

[ ...juuuuust in case. ] Gonna assume muggle's a neutral term.

Er, sorry. Muggle's somebody who doesn't use magic. You can't really make brooms fly without it, I don't reckon.

Oh, is that all? Definitely a muggle, then.

Yeah, I don't think you really could.

But you've got those flying tin cans... aeroplanes, I think they're called. I don't really get how that's not magic, but I never claimed to be an expert on the matter.

Ahh, planes are all about mechanics. Think it's more luck than mechanics, sometimes, but I never really looked it up. As long as I get where I need to go.

That's how I feel about some of the ways we travel, more or less, though I am fond of brooms. I sort of miss having a decent one around.

Maybe one'll turn up. Wouldn't be the weirdest thing that ever happened.

Maybe. We'll see.

... what kinds of sports do they have where you're from? A friend of mine once brought up... er... foot-ball, but I couldn't really follow it

[ Now, you? Sound distinctly British. Going out on a limb here. ]

Soccer, huh? Not too tough an idea if it gets laid out right. Two goals, one ball, no hands allowed. You gotta get it past the goalie- his job's pretty much to stand there and make sure the ball don't get in, but if you kick right it's no sweat.

Oh... so Dean was right, in that it's like Quidditch but with no brooms. Or Bludgers. Or Golden Snitches. Huh.

So I guess a goalie is like our Keeper, then? That's the position I play... or used to, back when I played on the team.

If it sounds right, it probably is.
