There's football and baseball in my world. And people watch the chuunin exams as part of a sporting event.

[... that's actually football as in soccer.]

Whaddaya know, some things really are universal. Might be able to scrape up more than a couple teams around here. So those exams are big on spectators too, yeah?

I've never really had a chance to practice either.

The final part of the exams, anyways. That's when the genin--lower leveled ninja--are pitted against each other in combat. It's to test if they have the skill and strategy to command a squad. Of course, most of the kids just assume if they beat each other up, they win, but that's the tricky part.

But yes, big on spectators. Since genin from all the villages were participating, people would come from all over to watch from every walk of life. And some would even place bets.

Ahh, got nothin' but time in a place like this one.

[ ...ninja. :| He always ends up associating with ninja. ] Win the fight but not the prize. Nice way to send on a lesson, I guess.

Never been too big on bettin', myself. If you're gonna watch, watch for the game.

You and me both. It's... frustrating. I think I might need to find myself a job....

[Yeah, you kinda... just attract them or something.] You don't always have to win, actually. You just have to show that you can use the skills you know to your advantage. It's not just about power.

Heh, never been keen on it, either. I've seen what it can to do people. [Tsunade, he's thinking about you. :|]

Bound to be someone lookin' for help, right? Keep your eye out, maybe I'll get a season of somethin' going, too.

[ Never should've bought the magnet. ] Ohh. One of those fight smart things. I usually just stick to the fight part of that.

I'm thinking about asking through the journals. I wouldn't mind, but you'll have to deal with someone really unused to either sport.

[... is it shaped like a Shuriken?

Minato chuckles.] Works fine for individuals. Harder to do that when you're expected to lead.

Hey, plenty of time for practicin', too. [ He's pretty easy about that.

HOW DID YOU KNOW. ] Yeah, guess it would be. Gotta do a little more thinkin' when you're watchin' someone's back. [ or shell ]

Sounds good to me. Could stand to be a bit more social like I was back home. [Good!

... He totally has the same one on his fridge back home.] Or telling them the plan about how to not get themselves killed. But I don't mind a chance to fight by myself every now and then.

See, does everyone a little good.

Here's hopin' no one really needs to. Crazy-ass place.

Yes. I've been spending a lot of time with my son....

I'll hope the same. Although this "vacation" is starting to really drive me crazy.

How's that goin' for you?

[ Casey gets ya. ] Stir-crazy. Kinda gets like that when you're used to more noise.

Good! He's a great kid.

Less the lack of noise--I've done missions in the wilderness plenty of times--but there's just no work to do. Not like I'm used to. Back home, I'm busy from even before I got to work until after I got home. [... although the paperwork was horrible. He doesn't miss that.]

Tough job.

[A laugh.]

Tough, yes, but I loved it. [He paused for a moment.] Except the paperwork. Hated the paperwork.

Yeah, paperwork'll always throw off a good deal. [ Not that he knows all that much on official stuff. ]
