I am hearing good things about 'Death of...' I was going to skip it because I am sick of DC's cheap deaths and I flipped through the first issue at the shop and saw the last page. I love Miracle and Barda and have already had my fill of seeing this type of heartbrake with another JLI couple, the Dibnys.

They'd better be bringing that one back. ~_~ You don't fuck with my BoP. ~_~

You don't fuck with my JLI! (Actually, they do regularly and it part of the reason they are slowly losing me. A world with no place for "Bwahaha" is no place for me.)

I thought the interesting thing about this week's Astonishing X-men (which I loved) was that it was very clearly paced for a monthly comic book rather than the eventual graphic novel. The big cliffhanger from the previous issue is resolved four pages in. That works great when you've just waited months for the comic, but is going to look a bit silly when collected into one volume. It's kind of weird, because overall this arc has definitely been on collection speed (ie so.... damn... slow...)

Good point. I liked very much that the cliffhanger resolved quickly (and loved the line about humans finding death to be traumatic), but it will seem weird in the collection. I am happy to see a "monthly-speed" story, though.

Speaking of which, I recently gave a buddy a copy of the first JLA graphic novel by Morrison and he had all sorts of complaints about the pacing and so I reread it and it actually suffers as a collection for the same reason. It jumps over things between months, which seems weird in a collection but fits in a monthly format.

I haven't read the new Astonishing, but I've been a little dubious about it ever since the "Danger" story arc. It's just a little too weird for me.

However, I'm excited to hear that there's a new Silver Surfer story arc. I wasn't sure what they were going to do after JMS's Requiem. And I wasn't sure if that was going to be mainline canon or what.

I'd like to put in a request for a Brave New game where Silver Surfer would be an appropriate character. "Your bullets are meaningless to one who has flown among asteroids in interstellar space!"

The Danger story arc was the only one so far that disappointed me. I think this arc is pretty solid.

My comic peddler dealer tells me that Requiem is a good read. Would you second that?

I couldn't keep up with the erratic schedule of the first chunk of Astonishing, and went with the collection. Now I'm ignoring the the second until it's collected. But man, it's a painful wait. Scott's not happy unless the new angst is more epic than the last angst.

Yeah, I have been slowly switching over to trades for more of my comic buying because of erratic schedule and stories that seem to be paced more for the inevitable collection anyway.
