Action Comics #858
Superman Confidential #8
Superman #670
Silver Surfer: In Thy Name #1
Astonishing X-Men #23
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Joss Whedon's Season Eight #8

Action Comics #858 (DC Comics)- Despite a dislike for the soft reboot of Superman's origins in current DC books and this book using that with a flashback of a nerdy teenage Clark with glasses, who apparently had his powers at a young age. (Post-Crisis Clark did not get most of his powers until High School and did not start wearing glasses until he had a reason to, protecting his identity as Superman. Since this teenage Clark is probably not Superboy, I am not sure why he is wearing glasses.) In the current time, Superman confronts a Braniac robot and learns of a problem in the future with the Legion of Superheroes. Travelling to the future, this issue does leave off with an excellent cliffhanger and is a generally entertaining read. (3.5 out of 5 stars)

Superman Confidential #8 (DC)- This retelling of Superman's first encounter with the Forever People, New Gods and Darkseid, is the first good use I've seen of the Fourth World characters since Firestorm's finale. Sure, it is just a reimagining of a classic Kirby story, but the art pops off the stage and the writers, Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning, aren't afraid to ham up the dialogue in Kirby-style. The art is very good with clean lines. The artist is hit or miss with facial expressions, but when he hits it, he hits it well. Check out Vykin's face in the last panel below. (4.75/5 stars)

Superman #670 (DC)- I do not like the space-faring empire of Kryptonians. I find the idea horrible and against the very nature of the original Superman origin. I do like Chris Kent. I do not like the art this issue. I do like Krypto being used this story. Mostly, this comic sucks.....mostly. It has Chris Kent and Krypto, though. (2/5 stars)

Silver Surfer: In Thy Name #1 (Marvel Comics)- I have never bought a Silver Surfer comic before today. This one just had such pretty art and Silver Surfer and Galactus have been on my mind lately, so I broke down and bought this comics. A brooding Norrin Radd gets brought to a peaceful and idyllic planet, but is unfortunately also pulled into what appears to be an old war. The comic was fun, but a but choppy and confusing. The art was very pretty. (3.75/5)

Astonishing X-Men #23 (Marvel)- Story is nearing its end and Scott is very cool this issue as he is tortured and questioned. Joss writes good. Cassidy draws good. Me like. (4/5 stars)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Joss Whedon's Season Eight #8 (Dark Horse)- Georges Jeanty's art has really grown on me and there are a few pages this comic that seemed very cool. Best of all is the Buffy/Faith grudge match! (4.5/5 stars)
