Dolphin slaughter: The Cove documentary -- Getting the word out

Apr 29, 2010 03:47

A couple days ago it was Earth Day and I happened to watch Oprah with my mom. One of the segments on her show was talking about the Dolphin slaughter that happens in Japan every September. I'd read an article in the paper about it, so I was familiar with it, only this time I got to see video of the event ( Read more... )

Sorry, I can't watch the link but I know of it. Make people aware!

I have watched on Discovery about the Japanese fishing industry years ago and it's pretty horrific. It isn't only dolphins, it's the sharks, they cut off the fins for the shark fin soup and throw back the animals into the ocean again, and the whale hunt, yes whale hunt. o_o
Greenpeace have always work against all the ocean-life exploitation in Japan, I'm a member but I don't think the general public is aware of the horrors so it's good that Oprah shows it.
It makes me feel so powerless.

Is there anything horrible we humans CAN'T DO? We seem to have every aspect of atrocity covered and here I love to read about cosmic horrors from beyond.
Sometimes it seems that our love for cats is the only thing that bind us together. >_Sorry for the rant ( ... )

I just feel so helpless seeing things like that. Even if I were to donate all my money, and go out on the boats and fight them with Greenpeace, I still feel like my efforts wouldn't do much ( ... )

I'm a Greenpeace member but I don't do anything, I just donate money. There is so much need in the world I don't know where to begin, I want to help animals and people. One day I will do more.

It's so sad that so much of the cruelty involves food, it's feels like humanity is just a big gaping piehole (lol, I like that word, I heard it on the Simpsons first) that needs to be filled every other second. Every ache and hole in our souls have to be stuffed up with food not matter the price.

Makes me think of an episode in Futurama, where it reveals that the greatest monster in the universe is, of course, Man.
There is a dark satisfaction in Lovecrafts universe about cosmic horrors chewing and feeding on us. :D

Thank you for the link, yet another feed add to my Sage reader, he he.
I hope you enjoyed the Curse of the Cannibal Confederates. Another kind of horror. XD

I believe that the greatest monster is man/humans. We're dominant, so we take control over everything, but we're greedy so we abuse our power.

I just watched the Curse of the Cannibal Confederates, which was so amusing. It reminded me that cannibals are real, and they don't have to be supernatural to exist. This, of course, reminded me of another movie that I saw and thoroughly enjoyed.

Funnily enough, it also involves the American Civil War and cannibalism. It also has Robert Carlyle in it!!

Ravenous

Veeeery good movie.

Yeah, I don't blame you one bit. I was driving to see Mike the other day and I was thinking about it and just making myself upset all over again.

I signed the petition, too. I don't know if it helps, but I guess all the names can't hurt... it shows just how far-reaching the concern is.
