Ugh. I always forget how stressful it is to prep a new class. ( Whinging about teaching )

I'm having the same problem with the admin now that I am starting as a TA. I only just learned by email what course I am TAing for, but I don't know which section or prof. Or where my office is, or what if the prof wants me teaching tutorials or just marking. Granted Carleton has the excuse of a suport staff strike right now, but it is still making me crazy.

Oh, the TA process is always nuts. Things get a little better in the winter semester but you can always expect a clusterfuck. Which is actually Carleton's motto. :-)

Hey, there's nothing wrong with Carleton. Since moving here I have learned that it doesn't have the best reputation in Ontario. Luckily I am apparently in one of the better programs, one which is not offered much elsewhere. That and they gave me money.

Aww, I'm sorry - I think Carleton is MUCH better than McMaster, if it makes you feel any better. And the giving of money is a very good thing.

Yeah, there's something about S & A--I feel terrible that I haven't read and fed-back to everyone yet. But somehow, in this fandom I cannot just pound stories down. I have to have a lot of mental white space around each reading. Maybe because this fandom tends to attract readers who pack so much into each sentence--it would be like binging on baklava.

And thank you. :-)

I meant "writers" who pack so much. Sigh.

That's okay - I knew what you meant :-) And YES, that's it exactly. S&A fic really does require slow, careful digestion and a lot of lag time between readings. And even then I feel really shy about offering comments because these stories are so damn smart and my usual "flail!" and superlative abuse doesn't seem to cut it. I fully intend to go back to your story and offer more concise feedback than, "Go read it, you'll love it!" It's just...smartness. And I'm thinking too much about Job Wheels right now to make any kind of sense.

Please to not be killing anyone. Although jail time would give you a lot of time to write, so...

How do you tickle the sea?

I don't know! I suspect that however you did it the sea would tickle you back...

And no, no killing. Maybe just maiming. *whistles*

you'll know you've truly lost it when your teaching just becomes a recitation of bus routes, with murderous glares and stabbings to answer stupid questions.

Hahaha, I'll have gone down that route by mid-October, I guarantee it.

I have a temporary office at the college and a borrowed photocopy code but no computer access, no mailbox or phone extension, and no teaching contract.
How I envy you! Our building work is still going on even though the children have returned - this week I have had no computers, no boards (interactive or otherwise), my doors don't fit properly, the lights were fitted an hour before the children came in and there is no handle on my cupboard door - or the door of the new staff toilet! On the plus side, you can keep 5 and 6 year old boys entertained for hours by just letting them watch the diggers!

Ugh, that sounds terrible! (Apart from the diggers - that's just plain cool). I really shouldn't complain; I know most of the experiences teachers on my f-list are probably rolling their eyes and going, "Yeah, and your point is...?" I guess we're all accustomed to making do with less and teaching in the midst of upheaval and distraction. (Although, wow, you're literally working in a construction site. That must be tough!)

Yeah, I'm hoping diggers feature big on the national tests this year!

Yes you should - especially if it'll get you your own photocopy code keep you from snapping/rampaging!
