Ugh. I always forget how stressful it is to prep a new class.
Now that I'm teaching four sections the anxiety level has jumped from the very pleasant "I might possibly be in a coma" of summer to "I kind of want to stab everybody." I have a temporary office at the college and a borrowed photocopy code but no computer access, no mailbox or phone extension, and no teaching contract. This should all be rectified by Monday but given the glacial pace of college admin departments I somehow doubt it. My night school supervisor JUST asked me yesterday if I'd managed to get a copy of the textbook for the course. Awesome.
I think this seven-day-a-week work schedule is going to make me snap and go on a murderous rampage. The folks inquiring about the bus system today are even more aggrivating than usual. When you call to inquire about a long, complex route that requires a series of precisely-timed transfers, why wouldn't you have a pen ready? Do you have some sort of special memory powers? No? Then write it down. *stabs*
*sigh* Okay. I've got that out of my system, and now I'm going to focus on more positive stuff.
ds_snippets is running a
Rapid Fire Challenge. 300 words in 24hrs? No problem!
llassah is
amazing and her writing
breaks me a little.
zabira is crakin' out the podfic.
due South Mix n' Match has a very healthy number of recruits (GO TEAM ANGST!), and the
Toronto International Film Festival starts on Monday. In a little over 72 hours I will be sitting in a darkened theatre with my friend Sarah screening the new CKR movie! And then on Wednesday I'm meeting up with fangirls! The magic of fannish love will sustain me through the first week of teaching. Hopefully.
In other news of awesome,
slidellra has walls the colour of Sea Tickle. This amuses me greatly. And it turns out that
omphale23's first fandom was Seaquest: DSV. *pets wee!

And before I forget,
I've been meaning to do a recs list for the
2007 Slings & Arrows ficathon for a while, but I'm still working my way through the offerings. I seem to have a threshold of one S&A fic per day. Anyway, for what it's worth, here are some highlights:
troyswann has really outdone herself with the breathlessly funny, creative and unexpectedly moving
At Every Corner Have Them Kiss. The story is told through a variety of mediums (including email, wedding invitations, and artwork by
j_s_cavalcante) and it really rocked my socks.
I hadn't read anything by
rillarilla before, but she shows a wonderful gift for language, pacing and structure with
Private Audiences.
I'm also terribly partial to
spuffydud's
I Would Rather Be Anywhere Else Than Here Today (I owe you feedback, spuffster!) And
simplystars's
More Fools Than Wise is another great story that explores Geoffrey's history with Ellen and Oliver. . If you're hunting around for good reading I hope you'll try out some of these stories, and maybe check out the rest of the ficathon.
I'm off to make some PowerPoint slides. Glamorous!
