Sorkinista

In the recent wake of Studio 60, I've been thinking a lot about Aaron Sorkin's writing and the similarities and differences between his shows. (By the way, Studio 60 = excellent, although not quite of the same calibre of The West Wing /biased) So this got me thinking about the quality of the writing on The West Wing itself. Hands down, it was much ( Read more... )

Yes! This is so true! Go you. And Jo likes the West Wing? See, this woman keeps amazing me with her.. well.. amazingness :P And I agree on everything you just said. Seasons 2 and 4 are my favorites, with season 1 as a very close second.

Icon love. Molly Ziegler (Wyatt-Ziegler? Ziegler-Wyatt? Wyatt?) is just adorable.

Jo is on the record as a professed West Wing fan. If you remember the interview Leaky and MuggleNet did with her after HBP came out, in both Emerson and Melissa's reports they mention that they chatted with her a little about West Wing.

It's hard for me to decide what my favorite season is. Between 1 and 2, definitely; they both had a lot of strengths and very few weaknesses (Mandy being the only huge one I can think of right now). I adore season 4, but while there were many, many terrific episodes, there were also a couple ones I didn't like, so it ranks slightly behind the first and second seasons. The third season is probably slightly ahead of the seventh season - it is a Sorkin season after all - but the seventh season had the long awaited Josh/Donna hookup. When you compare Josh/Donna to the dreaded Josh/Feminazi of Evil, it's pretty obvious which of the two had more squeeful moments for me.

I must confess that my pregnant exhaustion kept me from watching the pilot of Studio 60, but I did manage to stay up for last night's episode. It was actually hard for me to watch. By the end of the show, I had at least somewhat surrendered my self over to the un-Josh, but I missed Donna and CJ and Jed and Leo Toby especially. I don't think the show has the genius of West Wing (how could you possibly match that cast?) but there were some really great moments, and it was nice to see the Sorkin banter back on tv.

WORD to season 3 and WORD to Amy Gardner.

I must go watch Season 1 now.

I'm enjoying Studio 60 a lot more than I expected, actually. The pilot was a bit of a disappointment, so I was pleasantly surprised with this week's episode. Brad is excellent, Matthew Perry is excellent, and they have excellent chemistry. I do feel, however, that the Donna and C.J. component is what the show is missing. Amanda Peet's character sounds to me like it was written to be Studio 60's C.J., but she just seems too flat/timid/something or other to make it work. I do have high hopes for it, though.

How soon is Hogan due? I know it's getting very close now, but when is his due date?

You already know that I agree with you on all this. Studio 60 = Love, but it's still no West Wing. I, sadly, only have Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD, but I watch them with enough frequency that I really need to expand my collection before completely burning them out.

And I had no idea that JKR was a West Wing fan. She truly is a genius. ;)

And I totally ditto Fitzette's WORD on Amy Gardner!! Was she the most annoying character ever or WHAT?!? I did NOT miss her!

Ainsley, on the other hand, amused the hell out of me. "You really should have Fresca." :)

Oh, I loved Ainsley. She reminds me a little of my RL best friend; they're both Republican and have long blonde hair. Although my best friend doesn't have a Southern accent. Heh. I have to admit to being more than a little disgruntled when CSI: Miami took Emily Procter away. *sticks tongue out at them ( ... )
