No Hair

Hi, everyone.  I keep my head shaved, so the longest my hair ever gets is maybe 1/6th of an inch as stubble.  I've had scalp problems since I was a kid and it has come and gone, but since I started keeping my head shaved, it is now extremely noticable.  My head gets very dry and flaky and, not unlikely, itchy.  Also, if I am out in the sun, the ( Read more... )

This is a wild guess... but some people use oil cleansing method on their face... myself included. It's both cleaning and moisturizing. With very short hair you might be able to do this on your scalp.

Good luck.

Actually, I use OCM for my face.. never thought of trying it on my scalp, though. I might have to give it a shot. Thanks!

Definitely stop using shampoo on your head. The detergents are only going to make your scalp worse. I wouldn't really bother with the baking soda if I shaved my head. I would just do the normal ACV rinse (1 tblsp. ACV in 1 cup water), and add 3-4 drops tea tree oil. Pour this slowly on your scalp, stopping at regular intervals to massage your scalp with your fingers. Then rinse with cool water.

Giving up shampoo was the only way I got rid of my scalp eczema (I use coconut oil for the eczema on the rest of my body, but, well, I can't exactly apply oil to my scalp twice a day, lol).

Good luck! :)

How long did it take that to work? I've heard the same about avocado oil too. I got my boyfriend to try it once, but when it didn't immediately work he went back to the steroid cremes which cleared it up in a couple of days.

And what do you use to wash the rest of your body. He's SOOOOO addicted to regular soap. He goes through it at what I see as an alarming rate ;) When we run out I'm going to see if I can get him to try at least one or two gentler bars before buying more drying soap (by the case at costco).

Thanks for the tips! Sometimes, my boyfriend scrubs my head for me in the shower and something about not having to do it myself just feels so spoiled, lol.

I have a nail brush laying around so I think I'm going to use that the next time I shower. I do use a lotion on my head, but it's not for the face or scalp.... I will try using face moisturizer now, though. I use OCM and don't need moisturizer for my face anymore, so I think it's going to be kind of funny going out and buying one that I'm going to be using on my head. :D

My scalp is crazy-dry and itchy. Which is weird, because my face is really oily, but whatever. Water-only for cleansing and weak white vinegar rinses are the only routine I've ever found that doesn't leave my scalp itchy or flaking. (The vinegar is just for my hair, because it gets weird buildup from the hard water here, but I had short hair (like, above mid-back) I wouldn't bother with it.)

Others here have suggested doing the ACV rinse, but when my husband started using white vinegar (1 tbsp. + 1 cup water), it make his dandruff *vanish.*
