How awesome is Donna?

Apr 28, 2008 12:18

I talked to a good friend last night who had ditched Doctor Who halfway through New Earth, but on Friday, while waiting for Battlestar Galactica, he caught the end of "Partners in Crime". He only saw about five minutes, but he was "Who is that new woman? She seems something special ( Read more... )

OK, if M has picked Dr. Who back up, then maybe I will, too. That's just a maybe.

To be honest, I'm not sure how long he'll last! You think I'm hard on David Tennant, you should hear him! But I would recommend "Fires of Pompeii", which is next week's episode. It's the best of the series so far, and Donna is wonderful. Of course.

I have to say, I was totally blindsided by Donna's awesome. ^_^ God, she kicks ass.

I knew I would like her - I liked her in "The Runaway Bride" precisely for those quiet moments that so many people seemed not to notice. But I had no idea I was going to take to her so hard. I just absolutely love her in a way I can't say I've ever loved any other female character. In part, it's because she's a woman, and so many of our female characters are either girls or "love interests", but Donna is her own woman.

I love your icon.

Donna is amazing. As I said above, I don't think I've ever taken so hard to a female character, because we're not usually given ones that are so complex. Now, I will admit, I thought S1 Rose had a lot going for her, but then she just flattened out in S2, and hers was a coming-of-age story. Donna's already a woman, and a fantastic one at that. I wish she was with a Doctor that I loved (or frankly, even liked), but she does fit very well with Ten. My friend has an even shorter fuse with Tennant than I do, so we'll see how long he lasts, but I was amazed and thrilled that just seeing that "fly-by" scene with her grandfather, he could tell how great Donna is.

I agree, Donna is different. She's closest to Romana, in a way, in that she doesn't think all that much of him and isn't really reliant on him, but of course, they're also very different.

I'm pretty curious about how her arc is going to turn out.

I have this horrible, horrible feeling that the answer is "not well". If they sacrifice her on the altar of Ten, I swear, I'm taking up my huntin' spoon.

Hey Nina,

I have a Doctor Who related question for you. I hope you can at least steer me to someone who can help.

I am planning on adding Doctor Who/Torchwood to the list of fandoms on my new ficfinishing comm, but I need to advertise it to let authors know it's around so they can sign up.

Can you help me figure out the best comms to post to and who I'd need to talk to to get the word out? Any referrals would be much appreciated since I've not really ficced either fandom, but I like them both enough to want there to be more fic for them.

Thanks much...

Hi.

Well, I've kind of left off TW fandom because I don't really care about what's gone on in that show, but there are both comms for DWfiction and torchwood_fic. "Time and Chips" is the big Doctor/Rose comm, "Better_with_3" is the OT3 comm, and there are dw_ and tw_slash communities. If you go to those, you may be able to look at their affiliations and get some more ideas.

I'll admit, I don't tend to post to the comms very often, I'm kind of flying beneath the radar in that fandom! I'd start with the bit "fiction" comms, though.

Hi!

I will answer this meme, I'm just a little crunched on a ficathon story and an OT3 update at the moment.

We're also thinking about hitting "Free Willie" later this week. Would that work for you?

No rush.

"Free Willie" - yeah, okay. When/where's the discussion?
