Damned if I do, damned if I don't...

Sometimes, I regret ever having the idea to create the Cell. Sometimes, it's more trouble than it's worth and at times it's been way more of an emotional drain than it really needs to be, although perhaps that's only because, at those times, I allowed it to be an emotional drain. But you know, I've found that it does get easier to handle over time ( Read more... )

Oh yeah... I know what you mean, about the little groupies that form at the Cell. I do try hard to stay out of them myself though, to preserve my own identity. I think it's upsurd having to do what they say and think all the time, just to be approved. It's more liberating to be a 'nuetral', me thinks.

But hang in there, Nighty. Being a mod at TMNT boards, I've partaked in the Admin thoughts on what to do to nuetralize people. It's rough, trying to decide. But it's also true... that no matter what will be done, someone somehow will be peeved. So, I guess that's where you just have to pick the better of the two worse case scenarios.

Till then, try to have a great Thanksgivng holiday, and be grateful for the things that are going right! :D

Ah, but the problem is that the neutrals aren't loud enough...or something. I guess that's the perils of being neutral, though; you feel compelled not to get involved. Me, I've never subscribed to a clique anywhere or in any form. Even within fandoms. I have my own thoughts, my own interpretations, and they've never seemed to wholly match up with anyone else's. So I guess I've just never really been clique material...except maybe as a clique of one ( ... )

Further to HT's comments about TMNT forums, it reminded me of something I was thinking about earlier ( ... )

In theory, a system such as you suggest is a good idea. In fact, the Cell had such a policy before half the staff resigned, although it was never really enforced. And that, as I see it, is the problem with such a system. It requires constant monitoring and a clear delineation of what earns a smack and what does not. And even when the Cell had a larger staff, such close, constant monitoring wasn't usually possible and most people weren't clear about what was and was not acceptable behavior, mostly because I didn't really know what was acceptable or not. And now, the manpower certainly isn't there to monitor things all the time. However, I'm not inclined to assign a bunch of mods to make the policy feasible, either. Tried that, and it didn't work for various reasons, mostly because I became...uncomfortable with certain things. Once bitten, twice shy, as they say ( ... )

Well, I think I have the right to say something since, well, I'm a "Cellmate", too. I even might give you a new POV since I'm quite recient in the Cell, and I haven't been there even a whole year.
Perhaps it may helps you to get a more "neutral",or a new perspective.

I'm not a moderator in any forum, neither English or Spanish. I've a little Menssage Board on my domain, but that's all. Still, I can understand you and your personal conflict with the Cell. There is an important reason about that: I'm the webmaster of my domain, and I have to answer any trouble of it. But I also am the webmaster of certain "Fanworks" anime series website. That means I host works of mine, plus works other fans... and I have to check them out when somebody wants their works on my site. Therefore, I have to say "I can accept this because xxxxx" Or "I cannot accept that becausee xxxx"And you know, people is not about to accept any criticism ( ... )

I just have to say that "a box full of crickets" is one of the best descriptions of a forum that I have heard in a while.

Heh! XD It's a spanish slang ^_~ but I agree, it's the best way to describe a place filled of people with different opinions. Many forums are like that.

(Pd: I've made a long post and I've been ignored Bhuaaaaa! T_______T)

Well, I appriciate what you do, Nighty. A while back, when I worked as a football journalist in the new-media, I had to moderate a VERY busy forum and it was very much a lose/lose situation for me. I got the odd vote of confidence, but mostly it was people pouncing on me because - oh no! - someone posted a swear word at 3am in the morning and I wasn't around to delete it instananeously! And when I set up a 'swear word block' - that wasn't good enough either. 'You're treating us like kids!' screamed half the messageboard to me, ironically acting just like kids in the process ( ... )

Heh...Yeah, being a mod/admin is no fun, is it, Beaky? :) It just sucks all around. I've found that it certainly has the effect of making one lose friends in a most expeditious manner. :p Maybe that's just because I'm a self-righteous jerk at times, though ( ... )

Goes double for me, O Queen. You've done an awesome Jazz-errific job these last years from anyone's point of view, and if anyone doesn't agree with that, they're nuts. :\

Whirlwind, who was so anxious about The Queen's leaving jest she totally forgot the original subject. :p
