He wasn't early, but he wasn't late-- the two concepts were alien to him, and so he arrived just on time, walking through the doors and, spotting the teacher (only other one seated at a table: it wasn't that hard to guess), having a hand on his own chair the moment the metaphorical clock chimed. Maybe, to some, arriving right as they were supposed to was considered 'late,' but Kiric didn't give it any apparent mind; just took a seat on the opposite side without a word, all sharp eyes and blank expression.
The emptiness of the room was a good thing- at least, that was what Kiric thought. He kept his mind restrained, unwilling to think of the past when the present was right here; his back was rigid, clothes crisp to the point it was a wonder he wasn't carrying an iron around (it was also a wonder he was wearing a collared shirt when he was on 'break'A brief pause, before looking up - alright, he was relatively small for his age, though sitting down, it wasn't so much of an issue - and asking in a tone that wasn't right on anyone under

He knew those sharp eyes - they were his own. He had changed since he first developed that cold gaze - maybe softened; but as a child, then teenager, he'd stared into his own reflection often enough to know how imposing his glance could be.
Not that he had much need to intimidate now.
Byakuya approved of the boy's appearance; he himself was very neat and pristine in his manner of dress. "Whatever you wish to learn." He said quietly. "What subjects most appeal to you?"
"You know more than Japanese?" It was a subtle jab, but his voice was so deadpan - an actual question - it was hard to think he really meant it as an offense. And maybe he didn't. Kiric wasn't too good with words, after all; his sister told him as much. But he didn't quite care enough to change. Other people were the ones who had to take it.
As Byakuya didn't rise to the most well-placed of bait, he certainly wasn't going to respond to this casual fling of an insult. He just watched the one across from him with a steady, neutral gaze.
"Yes - I believe, as should you, in a well-rounded education, where upon graduation, many paths could be taken. What is it you wish to do with your life?"
