He wasn't early, but he wasn't late-- the two concepts were alien to him, and so he arrived just on time, walking through the doors and, spotting the teacher (only other one seated at a table: it wasn't that hard to guess), having a hand on his own chair the moment the metaphorical clock chimed. Maybe, to some, arriving right as they were supposed to was considered 'late,' but Kiric didn't give it any apparent mind; just took a seat on the opposite side without a word, all sharp eyes and blank expression.

The emptiness of the room was a good thing- at least, that was what Kiric thought. He kept his mind restrained, unwilling to think of the past when the present was right here; his back was rigid, clothes crisp to the point it was a wonder he wasn't carrying an iron around (it was also a wonder he was wearing a collared shirt when he was on 'break'A brief pause, before looking up - alright, he was relatively small for his age, though sitting down, it wasn't so much of an issue - and asking in a tone that wasn't right on anyone under ( ... )

He knew those sharp eyes - they were his own. He had changed since he first developed that cold gaze - maybe softened; but as a child, then teenager, he'd stared into his own reflection often enough to know how imposing his glance could be.

Not that he had much need to intimidate now.

Byakuya approved of the boy's appearance; he himself was very neat and pristine in his manner of dress. "Whatever you wish to learn." He said quietly. "What subjects most appeal to you?"

"You know more than Japanese?" It was a subtle jab, but his voice was so deadpan - an actual question - it was hard to think he really meant it as an offense. And maybe he didn't. Kiric wasn't too good with words, after all; his sister told him as much. But he didn't quite care enough to change. Other people were the ones who had to take it.

As Byakuya didn't rise to the most well-placed of bait, he certainly wasn't going to respond to this casual fling of an insult. He just watched the one across from him with a steady, neutral gaze.

"Yes - I believe, as should you, in a well-rounded education, where upon graduation, many paths could be taken. What is it you wish to do with your life?"

"Move back to Japan."

He said it without a blink, stutter or thought-- it was his only goal (getbacktoSora), and while he knew it didn't help in picking out what to study, that had been what Byakuya had asked. Without changing tones, the twin continued, "So perhaps leaving all paths open would be simplest."

"Move back and do what, exactly? Do you plan to work or study?" Byakuya asked, without missing a beat.

"This school provides as much as you will need to pursue just about any line of employment or further education. Be careful with your electives, and you will graduate with the freedom you desire."

"Work," the reply was absent, like Kiric honestly didn't think anything of it, but he was obviously still paying attention - not moving at all sort of gave that impression.

"Then that seems like the correct choice. Did you graduate with a goal in mind?" He wasn't idolizing; it was an honest question.

"Which profession do you think to dedicate yourself?" Byakuya asked; he rose fluidly, going over to the window and clasping his hands behind his back. Since they weren't getting down to the books just yet, he would encourage this casual questioning. Kiric intrigued him.

"Yes." He answered honestly, but did not elaborate; it was as exactly as the other had asked.

"I..." The pause was a mistake, but Kiric continued, anyway, ".. Am unsure." He only had one plan in mind- something that would be accomplishable, whether or not he had a good education. After that-- well. It didn't matter.

"Some would consider you lucky, for that."

"You seemed so certain just a moment ago - so quick with your answers, definite in your plan." Byakuya glanced over his shoulder at his would-be pupil.

"Do you have dreams, Kiric? Something that you are passionate about?"

"Nothing that would help with choosing what to study," Was the clip reply, only looking back at Byakuya because he was in front of him. "Isn't that common with ... High schoolers?"

"Tell me anyway," Byakuya said. "And I will answer any question you may have in return."

He paused, waiting for the other's reply; he believed in a close relationship with his students, although he could not relate to some of those teenagers if he tried his utmost.

There were some for whom he had hope, though.

"..."

Kiric thought it over - weighed his options, cast the pro and cons, stared right through the other as he wondered on it.

"Very well," and his voice was as unchanged as ever, although more resolute, "I have no further questions."

"You don't? I thought of you more curious than that," Byakuya replied, returning to seat himself at the table; it seemed the time for casual conversation was over.

"Here." He offered the other a sheet of twenty-odd questions. "I would like to test your general aptitude, if you will indulge me. Simply to get an understanding of where you stand amoung your peers."

"What else is there to talk of? You are a teacher." Again, something like an insult, with unimpressed, hard-set eyes and a carefully neutral expression. Kiric didn't immediately react to the questions as he took the paper, simply reading them over-- hardly any of them seemed like an issue. "And this covers all subjects?"

"Teacher does not equate to 'servant'..." Byakuya said; it could be interpreted that a note of caution sounded in his steady, calm voice.

"Yes. It is a general knowledge test. Please answer as quickly and concisely as possible. Your time begins now."
