Understandable. We haven't started on the best footing. But it isn't my decision or yours whether we work together, and to that end we need to meet.

I don't plan to interfere in your current routine, and I don't expect to become anything near your friend, if those are your concerns. [Lies; she's sure friendship would help but this isn't the right time.] I'd resent that sort of attention in your position.

Thank you. I expect it must be difficult for there to be an outsider involved, but I'll do my best by her. I don't think she's had the best impression of me: before she was assigned to me, I let my curiosity about her show forth, and for a girl who's been through what she has... it wasn't welcome, I could tell.

It does. [She frowns slightly, as if her face shows less than what she's thinking.] She was poisoned by the monks of the temple she sought training at, though it never states whether this was accidental or as some sort of punishment. I'm not yet aware if she knows this, and am not sure how to present it to her. She's requested her file, but...
