Sherlock Series 2 DVDs/Blu Rays, US editions

Twitter: Masterpiece PBS confirms that the US videos will be the uncut UK versions (which was what the last series was, so not a total surprise), and the release date will be May 22nd.

What I want to know is why they bother cutting? Do they think putting on the package it's the full UK edition will boost sales? (I remember when this was a "selling ( Read more... )

A friend went to a Q and A with Moffat a few weeks back. He told the audience that PBS tells them how many minutes are available and then he and his production company make the cuts. So PBS' intro, etc. must be the reason behind the cuts. I guess they restore the cuts on the DVD so that Americans get the full story.

Still, tis a pain.

Interesting. PBS has probably done this all along with several shows, but until viewers from both sides of the pond were able to compare notes, no one knew. I would have thought they'd be the last network to cut anything, though I do know they've blurred out nudity before.

Between the long wait for it to air, then knowing it's got cuts, they're just going to encourage downloading. For the more law abiding, it will just mean waiting until the end of the month and watching the DVDs with the uncut show. Or ordering Blu Rays from the UK that will play in the US that are available months before it airs in the US.
