I find the Russian language to be intimidating, for some reason. Something about it and German just make them seem intimidating to learn. Yet I studied Mandarin for seven years with no hesitations whatsoever, haha.

I hesitate to call because most of the applications have been sent through third party sites (like Monster and Indeed), so I don't even know if they recieved my application/resume, let alone looked at it. It's just very stressful. I wish people would even just say "thanks but no thanks". Then I would know I was at least getting through.

That's all the more reason to call, to make sure they're getting them. I called on one where I initially applied through frikken Craigslist (!), then I found their actual website and email applied again to be sure they'd find it... I'm including a cover letter with every application. And calling once a week. Two jobs told me they'd hired someone else, one job interviewed me, the rest have not responded yet. To help myself keep track, I have a little list of the places I applied and significant dates associated with each. (Ex: dropped off application 6/29, left a voicemail 7/6, left a voicemail 7/12...)
Call them!! :)

Do you watch Korean dramas? They're very popular and it'll probably help with your language upkeep. I feel like I've "learned" more Mandarin from watching Chinese/Taiwanese dramas.

I tried to learn Mandarin several years ago. I used language cds and took a couple of classes, but it's SO HARD! I have some knowledge (not very good) of Cantonese, so some things are familiar, but the tones really kick my ass. Anyway, good luck and learning languages is always very impressive!

I used to watch them all the time years and years ago. My favorite was My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, but IRIS was a close second (I adored TOP at the time, and he is a main character). I also secretly loved Pororo. It is a toddler show, but the language was really basic, making it pretty helpful for picking up little grammar bits and learning to recognize words. I might have to rewatch it. Plus, it is pretty adorable, I can't lie. I have looked into some of the shows that have come out in the last few years, but nothing has really stuck out as "I really want to watch that!" I do have to say, though, it's nice to see more variety than there used to be. I feel like every other Kdrama used to be the "girl pretends to be a guy, and them the male lead falls for her", and it got very played out. My friends and I used to watch some Taiwanese shows, too. My favorite by far was Bull Fighting, but Devil Beside You was cute and I loved the soundtrack.

I love Mandarin <3 Now and always. I don't know what it is, but I really love it, and I picked it ( ... )

I only tried to watch a couple of Korean dramas. My wife is big into Taiwanese and (lesser) Chinese dramas.

And I'm sure "formal" Cantonese would crush me since I can't do tones and apparently Cantonese has MORE tones than Mandarin! But it's super cool that you're such a multi-lingual person!

Oh the Steam sale is the worst! Good for cheap games obviously but my God is it super tempting to just buy everything!

I know!!! I'm so proud of myself for not spending my own money. And I'm also thankful I had some left over from Christmas, haha. I am down to $1.60 on my wallet... Hopefully I can save up some money before winter sale hits! In my struggle to not buy anything, I added almost 30 new games to my wishlist... I am officially over 100. You know your wishlist is too long when you get emails just about every week that something else on your list is on sale XD

I've just become much more restrictive on what I buy. I'm clearing my backlog now with some success and next time I see the sale I'll ask myself if I really need that game!

The premise is really interesting! I just wish I could focus enough to properly enjoy it, haha. It has been turned into a show, I think by Amazon Prime. Haven't gotten a chance to see it because I don't have a prime account, but I have heard really good things.

Hey, if he plays on PS4 and wants someone to shoot aliens with, lemme know! I am always looking to expand my fireteam! haha. I used to have a whole clan of about 12 of us that played together, but a few moved on and got a life (le gasp! heathens), and the rest left Destiny for Overwatch and have no plans to come back. Space got lonely, so I managed to get a friend hooked, and now I have one person to play with, haha.

My parents watch American Gods and they love it so far. I think the show sounds really good too, but confusing if you don't know the premise behind it! Hahaha. I would love to start watching it, but I have so many other shows to watch too! Ahhh, choices. XD

I think he will be playing on PC since he sold all of his consoles recently to buy a new bass. Lol It was really sad to see all of his consoles gone. But I know how you feel, all of my WoW buddies left to play Overwatch recently. I'm still here like, when are you guys coming back? :( LOL! But he's super excited about Destiny! It's all he's been talking about.
