When LiveJournal, Inc., was launched in December the new team made it very clear that LiveJournal was going to change. We also said that we would respect the values and legacy of LiveJournal. But, we can’t ignore the fact that as LiveJournal nears its second decade it needs to make some business decisions ( Read more... )

Yet. For now.

Never experienced censorship yet.

Know there is, for now, a way to turn off the previews.

Again, just because they don't affect you doesn't mean they're not perfectly valid complaints.

I blocked 'em. I can't remember HOW, mind, but they're gone now. I did it without Adblock, too. IT'S A GIANT MYSTERY.

whenever one of the snap preview boxes pop up, there are two little icons in the right hand corner. click the one that looks like a gear. there should be an option that says turn off snap.com previews (or something to the effect of that).

you'll no longer see them on the computer you're on. if you own multiple computers, you'll have to do it there too. i think. i can't remember if i did it on my my laptop and my desktop.

you can also see my post about it here which might make more sense because i wrote it right after i found it.

Just because they don't affect you now doesn't mean they won't affect you period. I've been a permanent member for a while now and I'm still royally pissed off at the way LJ has been slowly and systematically fucking over its user base. This is not because it has been a burden on me personally, but rather because its dicking over the user base in general.

I know someone who was a permanent member and got suspended over something stupid. There was no discussion about it and he never got his money back.

It just sounds like you don't leave your bubble enough to appreciate that you A) live in it, and B) not everyone else does.

You do realize that you're in the very vocal minority right? Most users don't give a shit.

You do realize that there is a NON-VOCAL majority who agrees. Instead of taking action, they will simply depart. Also, sharing LJ with friends in RL who don't understand LJ yet want to check it out and CAN"T get a basic account at no charge is a big deal.

"and CAN"T get a basic account at no charge"

BS.

Ok, so it wouldn't be called 'basic' and there'd be ads. Who cares?

Oh noes! Don't show that ad to me! I'm easily influenced and can't think for myself!

Don't know about you, but I never even really notice them. Ads are how companies pay for their crap. Get used to it. Don't like it? It's not that expensive. Big freaking whoop.

Put on your big girl panties, and deal.

That's just it: people have to make a living. How do you propose LJ/6A realize a return on their investment? Ads (which are easily ignored) are the alternative to requiring everyone to pay for their accounts (and if they ever did that, they'd hear the screams of outrage all the way up there on the International Space Station).
