Advent Children ~ Rufus Shinra Debate

Well this debate topic involves Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children. I decided to do a little research on the movie, and post two of the most frequently asked questions (FAQ) which were related to the movie. These questions revolve around the wheelchair man, and I am 100% sure all know it is by now, but just in case of spoilers, I decided to post the ( Read more... )

I have heard that one of the people from Square said that Rufus was pretending to be more injured than he really was, to put people off their guards - hence the reason for the banket and the bandages.

The same statement implied the wheelchair was also a sham but I can also believe he was injured badly enough that he still has problems walking two years after and needs the chair, but he can walk (I mainly go on the fact that he is seen in a wheerchair again after he's safe on the ground after taking that dive out of the building).

So... I tend to imagine he has longterm injuries but he plays them up as worse than they really are because that makes people underestimate him.

That was such a brilliant planning that Rufus came up with. The Turks also did great job playing along as well. I thought Reno was going to ruin everyhting. lol. When I first saw him with the blanket, I thought he was really burned up. Then when he was reveling himself, the music got all intense...and I was so speechless when he was just fine.

I see where you’re coming from. I suppose it is a strong possibility that he has long term injuries, but at least they do not prevent him from walking and fighting. That was a very awesome stunt he performed though. I don't think he was expecting to be rescued either, lol.

I tend to think he has walking problems - enough at least that he needs the wheelchair periodicaly. The geostigma probably hindered a great deal of recuperation but now he's over it he'll get better, and be able to stay on his feet longer.

That dive he took, the logic of "my death is better than Sephiroth coming back" may have gone through his head. Damn good luck Tseng and Elena turned up at that point!

He must have been going through hell for the last two years. I guess that was the Planet's way of punishing him. No wonder he is reformed. Epically when Cloud had those wound were the blue puss was coming out, I just can not imagine the expression on Rufus's face when that happened to him, but I'm sure he took it like a man. :)

At first I thought to myself "why don't he just put a few bullets in Kadaj's head," but then I realized that if he didn't go after the box, and killed him instead, then Loz and Yazoo would become stronger. So I guess he did make the right choice, after all.

Cloud too, is afflicted with Geostigma, but still manages to fight almost constantly in the end of the movie, only showing a brief period of fatigue during the last battle.

Keep in mind however that Cloud is cured before the final battle. Sephiroth even notes the fact right before he goes into exposition mode.

I forgot that as well, bummer.

That was an awesome fight though. The J-E-N-O-V-A remix in the Kadaj battle made things even more interesting. I wondered how did Reno and Rude made it out in time when they set off those bombs. The timer was almost out, unless they just speeded up the scene a bit. If they never showed them again in the end of the movie, so many people would have thought they killed themselves. :P
