Sorry - I've been thinking a lot more & talking/posting less. I guess I don't have to say sorry for that.

I had a realization today, that's akin to that actually.... about talking, which I shared with my mom while we got ready to workout at the Y (I dragged her to Pilates class which she enjoyed, because she's crazy like me - and my mom agreed ( Read more... )

heh. I just need to stop feeling like "I have to talk - it's my job to keep it going" - It's fine to talk - but yeah, sometimes I do talk more then I want to at workout/anywhere - thanks for the offer - sounds nice either way.

Here's the other "Simpsonized" icon- I don't use paper towels or curtains but it was the best background match I could find (shrug)

just quietly participate - they take it in while all the others are talking

That can be nice for a change of pace. I think it works best when people can be relaxed about whether or how much they participate, and there's an easy kind of give and take. Nobody has to be the life of the party and nobody gets lost against the wallpaper. :)

yeh, it's going to take a conscious effort on my part -I can tell already! neugotik January 3 2008, 17:09:40 UTC
yes - and I think it really takes personal self-confidence to allow oneself to just listen. I feel insecure or something & I talk but it doesn't help. And if I feel obliged to talk or talking because I'm insecure I probably don't even say very worthwhile things then.

I've found my best reactions have come during conversations (work or party or family or otherwise) when I feel I really don't have to talk but I finally feel I have something worthwhile or part of the conversation that's going strong to say. So .. I guess I've done this a "bit" in the past and it is a strength I wish to grow now that I've had this mini-epiphany about it. It's big to me, I guess.
