Rather disgusted

I've avoided saying much on this subject as it is very controversial and liable to spark various debates. At any rate, I've had enough of this particular issue, and I can't sit idly by any longer without saying anything ( Read more... )

Actually I've been trying to figure out how to articulate this exact opinion; I think you did an awesome job.

But the opponent would say to you, "A church has the right to protest at places that are against their beliefs, but people who are against the beliefs of a church can't protest against a church? A church can protest an abortion center, but a minority can't protest against a church that is discriminating against the minority? You realize that's hypocritical, right?"

I had not considered that angle. This bears more thinking.

I think they both have a right to protest each other, as long as it's peaceful, calm, and not meant to make the other side feel like they are terrible human beings. Protests of these kinds should be about protesting the action in question, not the individual people themselves. Unfortunately protests seem to be started a lot by mob mentality, which is never conducive to these requirements.

Anyways, back to what I was originally going to comment. I don't think I would know about anything that was going on the world if it wasn't for you or Jerle, neromir. :D

Yeah, with further thought, I can't in good conscience advocate denying the right to protest to either party. I do still think it's wrong to try to get churches to change their doctrine in order to fit perceived notions of right and wrong, but I agree with Silverstorm-- the protest should be against the action, not people.
