Chapter 1//
Chapter 2 Chapter 3:
Jin groaned quietly to himself and considered bashing his head against the wall. Over the days, Pi and Ryo had perfected their little chant to pester him about meeting the ‘mysteriously attractive waiter’ that they were convinced he was ‘secretly lusting after’.
“Jin! When are we going to meet this Kame-”
“Nashi!”
“Kame-”
“Nashi!”
The two exchanged knowing grins before turning to the eldest of the three, “So…? Shall we hit repeat?”
Finally unable to take the harassment anymore, he let out a defeated sigh, “I’ll take you this week alright!?”
Ryo crossed his arms, “This week when?”
“Uh…Friday?”
“Friday?”
Crap, that’s tomorrow…
“Uhh…I meant next Friday.”
Pi waggled his finger in his face, “Too late Jin, you said Friday, that’s tomorrow! You promised!”
“Fine, I’ll bring you guys tomorrow! But you have to keep it low-key, very low-key, so low-key it’s non-existent, okay?”
The two looked at each other before shrugging, “sounds fine to me. Only one day left till we get to meet Kame-”
“Nashi!”
“Kame-”
“Nashi!”
After bursting into laughter, they left the room in search of food. Jin groaned again, “Damn…”
-------------------------
“Welcome!”
He gave a weak smile to the owner of the café before taking his usual seat and waited for his coffee with his head resting on the table. Someone walked up to him and placed a cup down in front of him, “You look stressed today.”
Keeping his stare on the table, he sighed, “yea, I just promised my friends that I’d bring them here tomorrow to meet you…”
“Me?”
He nodded, “they know you as the ‘mysteriously attra’…” he looked up and gave a slight jolt in surprise, “holy crap, when’d you get back!?”
Kame blinked, “since yesterday? So, what’s this about me being a mysterious person?”
Caught in the middle of his mindless blabbing, he waved his hands frantically to distract the other, “I-it’s nothing! Pi and Ryo-chan were just being dumb-not dumb, weird! They were just being weird, that’s all!”
“Pi and Ryo-chan…?” The waiter looked up and pursed his lips, placing a finger on his chin to think better, “you mean Yamashita Tomohisa and Nishikido Ryo?”
He paused in his panicking to blink, then he frowned, “hey, how come you know who they are?”
The other looked down, clearly amused, “Are you jealous?” A grin, “I’m joking, I read the magazine from the other day.”
“Oh…” rubbing the back of his neck, he jutted his lips out in thought of what to say next, “uh…it’s nice to see you not sick anymore, I thought you died or something.”
The waiter treated him with a smile, “Thanks, and thanks for the card.”
He gave a weak laugh, “No problem, glad you liked it.”
Kame grinned, “Yea, it was cute. I’ve never seen a get well message in a ‘Don’t worry, you’re only halfway to 120!’ card before.”
“Was it?”
A nod, “Yea, and the inside said ‘Don’t worry about it! The wrinkles will become less noticeable with time, because your eyesight won’t last long anyways.’ You can only imagine how surprised I was when I opened it.”
“Eh? Did it?” Embarrassed, he gave a mild excuse, “at least I didn’t get you the ‘Congratulations it’s a girl!’ one…or the ‘You looked better last night’ one…”
He couldn’t help but wonder where his brain had disappeared off to.
The younger man laughed, “Someone probably would’ve shot you if you sent me that one. Do I look 60?”
Brows furling, he shook his head, “No that was a joke, I-er…I wasn’t even looking when I picked out the card, I swear! You don’t look 60, you look very young, like…4 or something-no, not 4, you look young enough to be my mom-wait, my mom’s older than me, you look younger than me! You look 10, yea 10!”
Suddenly, he realized why his friends insisted on calling him Bakanishi.
When he looked up, he saw that the other had a hand over his mouth to stop himself from laughing too hard, “so I look 10, hm?”
Having no idea what he had just said, he looked around before answering meekly, “Yes, no…yes?”
“If I didn’t know any better, I’d say you have a crush on me.”
He scoffed and looked away, flustered, his best friends’ words echoing in his head in a very annoying manner, “in your dreams.”
The other laughed, “Of course not, what was I thinking? You’re way out of my league, idol-sama. I listened to your CD by the way.”
Jin turned and stared, “What!?”
The waiter looked around before raising a brow in confusion, “Huh? Was I not supposed to? I had nothing better to do while I was under house arrest and I was curious…so yea…”
“I see…”
“Yea…”
Awkward pause.
The singer finally looked up, “so how was it? Did you like it?”
A smile reached the other’s lips as he nodded, “It was great, I loved it. You wrote a lot of the songs, didn’t you?”
Pride and butterflies slowly fluttered up from his stomach, slowly making their way up to his brain, “Yea I did.”
“I was surprised though…”
He frowned as his flimsy tower of pride fell over, but the butterflies stayed, “Why?”
“It’s not a bad thing,” Kame gave a small shrug; “I just thought there’d be more love songs.”
To hold back a sputter, he stuck his lips out in a pouty manner, “What are you talking about? Half the songs are about love-”
“But they weren’t yours.”
Jin paused and finished his coffee, “…yea well, can’t write what you’re not feeling. And I’m not in love right now so…”
Hear that? Not in love…I am not in love.
The waiter scoffed, “That’s a dumb excuse. You don’t need to be in love to write a love song. Love songs can be about anything, people you care about, things you like…”
“Easier said than done.”
“Yea right…”
“Well I don’t see you writing love songs.”
“I bet I can.”
“I bet you can’t.”
Kame looked over at the challenge and automatically answered, “I bet I can, hell, I bet I can write one by tomorrow.”
“Hm?” He raised a brow with interest, “fine, if you can write a good love song and show me tomorrow, I’ll…buy you a cup of coffee.” When the other didn’t look impressed, he pursed his lips, “and I’ll write a song in response.”
No response.
“And I’ll sing it and turn it into a single?”
…
“And I’ll write even more songs?”
“That’s it?”
“…and I’ll give you a card every time I see you?”
“That’s still a terrible wager…”
Jin frowned, “what else do you want?”
A shrug, “I don’t know, I just wanted to see how much you were willing to offer.”
“Oh…well I can’t think of anything else, so is it a bet?”
“It’s a bet.”
They shook hands on it.
----------------------------
“So…?”
Jin looked up, trying not to let his anxiety show, “So what?”
Pi frowned and scolded the other lightly, “Don’t try to look like you don’t know, Jin. Today’s the day we get to meet Kame-”
The shorter man looked over from across the room, “Nashi!”
“Right?”
“Yea…and…?”
Ryo walked over to his side and rolled his eyes, “Fat Jin, work ended half an hour ago and you’re still sitting here, you never stay longer than you have to.”
He didn’t flinch at the insult, “And…?”
Pi was on his other side, pointing at the mirror, “And you wrote a list of how you’re going to stall on your mirror…I should’ve never bought you those markers.”
“…and…?”
“And hurry up!”
Jin continued to sit there, silently contemplating, “…” suddenly, he pointed to the right, “what’s that!?”
Yamapi was unmoved as he instructed the other, “Ryo-chan, don’t look.”
The shorter man paused mid-turn and blinked before turning back to stare at him.
He snapped his fingers, Pi caught on too quickly, “damn…” long pause, “…and…?”
The second eldest frowned, “And if you don’t take us now, by the end of this, only two of us will be happy-and you’re excluded from the happiness.”
The other nodded and elaborated, “And by that, Ryo-chan meant that if you don’t take us there, we’re going to get Tackey to come in here and harass you and tell the world about you secretly lusting after this mysteriously attractive waiter, and we’ll use names this time, right, Ryo-chan?”
The other nodded seriously, “Right.”
“Well you two convinced me,” he got up and dragged his friends out the door by the collars.
The two exchanged grins as they were hauled out by their unexpectedly strong friend. “Yay! We finally get to meet Kame-”
“Nashi!”
“Kame-”
“Nashi!”
Their chanting only caused the singer to walk faster, Pi looked over and gave the other a thumbs up, Ryo replied with a thumbs up of his own.
-------------------------
By the time they reached the café, Jin was panting, dragging his feet, and his friends into the coffee shop. The bell gave a warm jingle as always as the owner of the place gave a happy smile at the sight of more customers, “Welcome!”
Jin looked over and nodded his greeting before making his way over to his seat, the other two made their way over to the table, “there aren’t any chairs for us…”
“That’s why you pull a couple over.”
Pi gave a mock exasperated sigh and walked over to do as he was instructed. So they sat down, Ryo, properly seated, next to the younger man. And Yamapi sat between the two, facing his best friend, sitting with his chair backwards, tilting it a bit as they waited.
“So…?”
“So what?”
“So…?”
He raised a brow, “You’re being unusually impatient and hyper, Pi, you weren’t like this awhile ago…”
Ryo shook his head, “That’d be the sugar setting in, which would be Tegoshi’s fault, he came in this morning with a garbage bag of sweets from his birthday and was all ‘Ryo-tan, Yamashita-kun, you’ll eat them with me, right?’ and we couldn’t say no.”
“Oh…that makes sense, but why aren’t you all sugar high and stuff?”
A shrug, “I fed half of mine to Pi, got sick after two dozen chocolate bars.”
“Wow…why don’t you make him less…high?”
“It amuses me when he’s drunk off candy.”
“Stop trying to be an S Ryo-chan, everyone knows you’re more of an M and Pi’s the one who-”
He was interrupted yet again by a familiar voice, “Hello, are you ready to order?”
The three looked over at the waiter; Jin found that his brain completely stopped functioning, again. Pi beamed, “Hello, I’m Yamapi Tomohisa, this is Nishikido Ryo-chan, you must be Kamenashi Kazu-chan, the waiter JinJin’s beenmmph” his brows furled as he looked over at his friend who had covered his mouth. A bit to the side, his other best friend was trying to conceal his grin behind his hand, his shot Jin his I-told-you-it-was-amusing look.
The eldest looked up and quickly ordered, “My usual, these two will have the same, no sugar for his though,” he glared at his friend, then turned and shot his no-it’s-not look towards Ryo.
“Alright, coming right up,” Kame gave an amused grin before walking off to get the drinks.
Jin sighed and let go of his best friend, he looked at his hand, “Pi…please don’t tell me you licked my hand.”
“What if I did?”
“Then I’d have to pour hot coffee on your lap.”
Yamapi sat there with a dazed grin, “…I didn’t lick your hand.”
“You better not have…”
He looked over, trying to remember ways to sober up his intoxicated friend. Finally recalling one of the ways, he whispered something into the other’s ear and waited for the message to make its way to his brain. His best friend looked over after a minute with a frown on his face, “not funny.”
Ryo pouted, “Way to ruin the fun, what’d you say to him anyways?”
He shrugged, “That you asked for Leah Dizon’s autograph the other day.”
“No I didn’t, she wasn’t even around here this week!”
He raised a brow, “You still keep track?”
The other looked over from his boyfriend to his friend, “no…?”
“Here are you drinks, this one has no sugar in it.” They watched as their drinks were placed in front of them and gave their thanks. “So these are the friends you’ve been telling me about?”
“Yea…Pi and Ryo-chan, this is Kamenashi Kazuya.”
Pi smiled calmly and extended his hand, “Nice to meet you.”
Kame shot the eldest a strange look as he shook Yamapi’s hand, the sudden change in the singer’s personality was just a little new to him, but he managed to return the smile, “It’s nice to meet you too.”
“I was wondering when we’d be able to meet the person that got Jin to stop ignoring us,” he spoke conversationally as he took a sip of his sugar-free coffee, wincing a bit at the bitter taste. “How did you two meet anyways?”
Jin could feel his face heating up as he tried his best to concentrate on his coffee. He really wished Pi wouldn’t talk in a way that made them sound like they were dating, but either way he continued listening closely.
The waiter laughed at the memory, “The first time he came in here, I mistook him for someone I used to know, then the second time, we had an argument and I ended up buying him coffee…”
-------------------------
After chatting for awhile longer, Ryo looked at his watch, “Pi, don’t we have a photo shoot to go to?”
The singer looked over, “How much longer do we have?”
“We have to get there in ten.”
Pi smiled and got up, “Great, just enough time to go pick up the jacket I ordered.”
“What are you talking about, that’ll take you at least half an hour to get there and back to the studio.”
“That’s fine isn’t it? It’s not like anyone expects me to be there on time.”
Ryo rolled his eyes, “I wonder why…but this time I’m going to be late with you…you’re going to ruin my reputation.”
The younger man sulked a bit, “fine, I guess we can go there on time…I just kind of wanted to spend a little more time with you, that’s all.”
He paused, then gave up without a second thought, “you know what? Screw this, let’s just hurry up and go get the stupid jacket already.”
Yamapi cheered and dragged the other towards the door, looking back he smiled, “Hey Kame-chan, we’re coming back again, okay?”
The waiter nodded,” of course, I’ll see you guys next time.” After the door closed, he turned his attention to the elder man, “they’re nice…”
He nodded in agreement, “Yea they are.”
“Do you ever feel like the third wheel?”
Jin blinked, the other was nothing if not blunt, “No…because it’s not awkward around them and I don’t like-like either one of them so it’s fine. Anyways, it’s not like I get excluded, we have cuddling threesomes.”
Kame stared at him incredulously, “What?”
“Cuddling threesomes? Yea, we do it all the time, put in a movie and bunch up on the couch, a cuddling threesome, anything more than that I’d rather not be part of it.”
The younger man gave a slow nod, “I see…I got a song by the way, told you I’d be able to.” He took a piece of paper out of his pocket and placed it on the table, “I’ll be right back; customers.”
Jin unfolded the paper and skimmed over the neat writing, letting the words sink in.
Kizuna…
By the time the other returned, he had finished reading and was gaping at it. “So…? Did I win the bet?”
He looked at the waiter, “this is amazing…”
“Thanks,” giving an offhanded shrug, he gave a small smile, “You can have it if you want.”
“Why?”
“What am I supposed to do with a song?”
“…sing it?”
Kame laughed, “That’s your job, not mine. So I guess now you have to go and fulfill your half of the bargain and go write songs.”
He nodded, “I guess…say, this is completely unrelated, but what days do you have off?”
“Well I don’t work weekends…”
“Let’s see…have an interview tomorrow…are you free on Sunday?”
The other looked at him in amusement, “are you asking me out on a date?”
“No, that’s not it! I just wanted to hang out in a…not-dating way!”
Raising a brow, the waiter shrugged, “alright, have it your way. I would’ve said yes, too.”
Jin blinked a couple times, “Well if that’s the case…let’s make it a date then.”
-------------------------
The café was closing and Jin was grabbing his belongings as he got ready to go home. The waiter walked over and joked lightly, “what? No tip?”
“I don’t have much on me today, anyways, I bought you a cup of coffee.”
The other shook his head, “It’s fine.”
“Here,” he handed the other a slip of paper, “it’s my number, if you sell it online, you’ll get way more money than what I usually leave.”
Kame smiled and accepted the paper, “I won’t do that…yet, I’ll save this for emergencies.”
“Yea well…I guess I’ll see you on Sunday…I’m going to go home now and write songs and stuff…’cause that’s what I do, ‘cause that’s my job. I’ll see you later.” He opened the door and looked back before leaving, “…I wish it was Sunday.”
He couldn’t help but feel very accomplished at the warm smile he got from the other.
----------------------
On Saturday night, he was having a hard time falling asleep, too excited about Sunday to relax. In his head, he was planning out the best and worst scenario possible, before he knew it, he had drifted off.
----------------------
There he was again, standing in front of that boy again, on the street again. Memories from the long past. “Hey, I have a stupid question.”
“A stupid question?”
“Yea, a stupid question, I already know the answer but I want your opinion on it.”
The boy nodded, “Shoot.”
He was smiling rather shyly, “do you think I can fly?”
A shrug, “…that’s not a stupid question. I think you can fly.”
“Eh? Really?”
“Yes, maybe not today, but someday, you’ll fly for sure.”
Smiling, he grasped the boy’s hand tightly as they continued walking, “Ja, I’ll never let go of your hand then.”
The other blinked and looked at their hands, “Why?”
“Because when I fly away, I want you to be there, flying with me.”
-------------------------
His eyes fluttered open. He sat up with a sigh, that boy was the only person who had believed that he could fly. Unable to fall back asleep, and feeling motivated, Jin got out of bed and grabbed his guitar, a pencil and a piece of paper.
A love song hm…?
