Chapter 1// Chapter 2// Chapter 3

Chapter 4:

He stood there, right where they were supposed to meet. He, who was, after hanging out with Pi too often, usually late by 5 minutes, was early by 15. Dressed as normally as he could, with the shirt he had ‘borrowed’ from Pi a couple weeks ago, a thick red-brown jacket lined with fur, jeans and boots, with his large designer shades on and an expensive bag that someone had bought him, he waited.

Awhile later, the other showed up with a rueful grin, “sorry, had to get through a lot of security check points,” he counted them off with his fingers, “there was Junno, Ueda, Koki, and Nakamaru. You know Junno and Koki, Ueda took over my shift a couple times while I was sick so you might’ve met him…I don’t think you’ve met Nakamaru yet.”

Smiling, he joked, “Who are they, your bodyguards? Even I don’t have bodyguards.”

The other shot him a grin, “I guess that just shows you how important I am.”

Then suddenly, he remembered and abruptly shoved an envelope into the other’s face, “Oh! Here!”

Kame winced and rubbed his nose, “thanks…” he laughed at the singer’s surprised face and took the envelope, “what’s this for?”

“I lost the bet, right? I’m being a good sportsman.”

The waiter blinked, “…by giving me a baby shower card?”

Jin raised a brow and looked at it, “…hm, so it is…I really should’ve noticed that before I bought it…”

“I think so too…”

“Yea well, it’s the inside that counts, who cares about the cover?”

“Obviously not you,” he gave a grin and opened it, “you finished the song?”

He nodded and waited for the other to finish reading, fingers drumming on the side of his leg anxiously. When he finally couldn’t wait any longer, he watched the other through his shades, “So…?”

The younger man looked up at him, “I like it, so this is going to go your next single?”

“Along with your song,” he answered immediately, “uh…don’t worry, you’ll be credited and paid and all that…if it’s alright with you, that is.”

Kame shook his head ruefully and put the card back into the envelope which was then placed into his bag, “can you not? Use my name I mean, you can have the song, but can my name be left out?”

He was confused, and when he was confused, he frowned and furled his eyebrows, which is exactly what he ended up doing, “Why?”

The other gave an offhanded shrug, “I have no intention of being known by the public, that’s all. You can put your name down as the writer, I don’t really care.”

His frown deepened, still trying to figure out the logic behind the other’s reason, “I can’t do that, it’s your song.” Finally, after a pause, he sighed, “I got it; I’ll just put you down as anonymous, alright?”

“Alright,” a smile, “thanks…hey Akanishi-”

“Jin,” he lowered his shades a bit to look the other in the eye, “call me Jin.”

The waiter nodded, “Jin…I want to hear how the song goes.”

A smile graced his lips, “later, right now, I want to eat.”

-------------------------

They were sitting inside one of Jin’s favorite restaurants, small, clean, fast and convenient. It was awkward, very awkward.

Jin watched the other eat and gave a strange grin, “this is sufficiently awkward.”

“This is weird, I’m not used to it at all,” Kame spoke between mouthfuls.

“What is? The fact that it’s not you serving me food and drinks right now?”

“Yea…that and the fact that this is a date, sorry, my brain just caught up.”

“I see…you’re just as slow as me then.”

Kame gave a small grin, “I guess…”

He nodded and looked around, spotting someone with a huge camera, he swore, “crap, paparazzi people…” the other looked at him questioningly and he shook his head, “it’s nothing.” Raising his hand, he got the bill, paid, and got up, “Come on, let’s go.”

“Huh?”

“You said that you had no intention of being known by the public right? Well if we don’t move soon, you’ll be known by anyone and everyone.”

The waiter frowned and got up, following the other out of the restaurant, Jin looked back, “I think we have to make a run for it.”

“Wha-” before Kame could finish his sentence, the singer grabbed him by the hand and began running down the street with him in tow. They ran for a couple blocks, past the crowds of people until they finally turned a corner and stopped, out of breath.

He looked over anxiously only to see the other laughing, he sighed in relief. There was another pause. Jin rubbed the back of his neck and let out a small laugh, “…somehow this ended up more exciting than that time when Ryo-chan was in denial…”

-------------------------

“Jin! Jin! Jin! Jin! Jin! Fat Jin! Skinny Jin! Very fat Jin! Answer me Jin! Stupid fat Jin! Answer me!”

He continued staring at his friend before finally replying, “Are you alright, Ryo-chan? You seem kind of…frantic.”

His friend rolled his eyes, “oh really? I didn’t notice because I was too busy yelling for your attention!”

Unfazed, he smiled, “So what’s the problem?”

“Tell me I’m straight.”

Jin blinked, “…what?”

The younger man didn’t elaborate on his demand, “Tell me I’m straight. Tell me I still like girls, I still like porn and all that and not guys and especially not Pi.”

“Okay, you like-wait, what? You like Pi!?”

Ryo groaned in frustration, “No I don’t!”

He snapped his fingers, “Oh I get it, you’re in denial.”

When Ryo panicked, he randomly blabbed a mix of insults and incoherencies, “No I’m not! Shut up! You’re dumb! I should’ve gone to someone else! Damn!”

Again, he was unfazed, “What’s wrong with liking Pi? He’s very likable. I like Pi too, just not in that way. I think it’s very cute of you to like Pi.”

The other protested, “I don’t like Pi! I’m straight!”

“Ryo-chan…you know that only a handful comes out straight after entering this company…remember? We used to make bets on how long the juniors last, or is your mind so full of Pi that you can’t remember all that stuff?”

“I’m straight! I’m as straight as an arrow!”

“…like that arrow?” Jin pointed to the far wall where there was an arrow going around in a circle, “That’s…not very straight, Ryo-chan…”

The other’s eyes widened at the poster, “No! Where the hell did that poster come from!? I’m straighter than a pencil!”

“If a pencil got any straighter, it’d be curved…”

Ryo shot him a strange look, but arguing against the logic of Akanishi Jin was like…like being nice without a reason, it just wasn’t something he did. “I’m not gay.”

Jin gave him a sweet smile, “of course not Ryo-chan,” he thought for a moment, “I guess you’re technically straight.”

“Thank you…huh? Technically?”

“Yea, I mean Pi needs a bra and you’ve got that thing where you bat your eyelashes, not to mention you’re terrified of bugs so technically you’re both half girls, and two halves make a whole. So I guess you’re technically straight.”

“Wha-I don’t bat my eyelashes!”

The elder raised a brow, “yes you do, whenever you want something or you don’t like something, you look up, make your eyes all wide and you bat your eyelashes!”

Ryo pouted and looked up, “No I don’t!”

“You’re doing it again!”

“No I’m not!” He shouted and headed for the door, only to run into someone else, someone who needed a bra. He glared at the other then jumped back in surprise, “Pi! I don’t like you! I don’t think you’re hot! I don’t think you look good in anything you wear! I don’t want to kiss you! I don’t want to go out with you at all! And Jin says you need a bra!”

Pi blinked and watched the other stormed out, “…is Ryo-chan mad at me or is he in denial about something?”

“What do you think?”

The elder watched as the other’s shoulders slumped a bit, “What did I do this time…wait, you said what about me?”

“Nothing.” Jin shot him his sweetest smile, “Ryo-chan just figured out that he’s straighter than a pencil.”

He blinked again, “wow…that’s pretty straight…”

-------------------------

Ryo avoided all the guys in the company for a week after that, which was rather hard as he was in a boy band and the company was made up of males. “Jin! Jin! Jin!”

He was taking a break from his dancing when his friend ran in; he put down his water bottle, “Yes Ryo-chan?”

“Help! Shige’s fallen for me rugged good looks and sexiness!”

His lips curved upwards, “He what?”

“You heard me!”

His lips were twitching, he decided that it’d be better not to mention the fact that he’d sent Shige a picture of Ryo when they were younger and dumber, and screwing around with the make-up kits, he began laughing, “Rugged good looks and sexiness…”

“It’s not funny! He’s been staring at me nonstop today! It’s creeping me out!”

Jin was clutching at his sides as he continued laughing.

“Argh! You’re no help at all!” Ryo cried childishly and walked off to Pi who was entering the room, “Pi, Jin’s being useless again!”

The younger singer looked at the two before asking the other with concern, “What happened, Ryo-chan?”

“I’m too attractive!”

By that time, Jin had collapsed on the floor from laughter.

Pi held back his own grin and nodded, “yes, you’re very attractive, Ryo-chan.”

Ryo’s face heated up at the comment as he shook his head frantically, “never mind! I wasn’t here! I didn’t say anything! You’re stupid! Go away! Argh! I need to go find…knee pads!” Then he flew out of the room.

Yamapi gave a bemused grin and kneeled down beside his best friend. “You alright there, Jin? Should I call an ambulance? Are you breathing?”

“No,” he gasped between his laughter, clutching at his aching sides, “I can’t, breathe, oh god, Ryo-chan, too funny. My sides hurt, so much.”

----------------------------

“Ryo-chan’s going to kill me for telling you all this.”

They had began walking down the street, Kame stopped walking and was watching him with interest, “that’s alright, what happened after that?”

He laughed, “what do you mean that’s alright? I could be killed within the next few days and it’d be partially your fault.”

“Hey, you told me all this out of your own free will, so finish what you started and tell me the rest of the story.”

Jin looked around, “Do you want to go shopping? Actually, that’d be pretty risky…”

Kame’s brows furled, “Don’t try to change the subject.”

“Fine…” he laughed and began walking again, looking around, just incase there were more stalkers around, “well because I’m so brilliant, I managed to get those two together…”

-------------------------

He walked over to his friend and tapped the other’s shoulder, causing the other to give a jump, “Ryo-chan, is Shige still staring at you?”

“Yes! It’s scaring the crap out of me!”

“Here, I’ve got an idea-”

Ryo immediately waved his hand, cutting him off, “No thanks.”

He frowned and shot his friend a pout, “Hey! At least listen to it before you reject it!”

“As if it wasn’t bad enough that I’m being influenced by your stupidity,” there was a pause. Ryo sighed and crossed his arms, “Fine, what is it?”

“Get Pi to pretend to be, you know, your boyfriend or something, Shige’ll back off for sure. I mean he’s afra-I mean attracted to you right? If you get Pi to stay around you all the time, he’ll get intimidated and stop.”

It made perfect sense to him. Somehow.

The younger man’s brows furled, but before he could answer, Pi, who was sitting on the couch and being ignored, spoke up, “sounds fine to me.”

The Osaka man looked over, “that made sense to you?”

He shrugged, “No, but you never know till you try.”

Jin gave an excited grin, “See? Pi’s willing!”

Ryo frowned and protested, “But it makes no sense!”

Yamapi looked up, “no it doesn’t…to us at least. But if it makes sense to Jin somehow, there’s always that crazy chance that it’ll work out perfectly. Jin’s just a little too far out of the box for us to understand.”

“No…he’s not just out of the box, he decided to take a stroll and ended up somewhere on mars, that’s how far out he is.”

Jin pursed his lips, “I’m still here you know…the idea’s not that crazy, just give it a go.”

“…fine…I can’t believe I’m listening to you.”

“You’ll thank me for it,” he gave a wink and grinned.

-------------------------

“Did he ever thank you for it?”

Jin laughed and shook his head, “No, Ryo-chan isn’t the type to do that.”

“Oh,” Kame looked around, they were at a park, he walked over and sat on a swing, “so did it work? Your plan I mean.”

He walked over and sat down in the swing next to the waiter’s, “No…but then I made up a second plan…”

----------------------------

“Ryo-chan! Ryo-chan! Ryo-chan! Ryo-chan!”

The shorter singer looked over with boredom, “What?”

“I think Shige’s fallen for Pi too!”

“…what?”

He watched as the other’s eyes give off a dangerous glint, “…yea…”

Ryo got up with a frown, “I’ll be right back, I’m going to go kill him.”

Jin raised a brow, “Why? I thought you didn’t like Pi.”

“I don’t…” he paused, “damn…fine, I’m going to go ‘have a talk’ with him…”

“And I’m coming to watch.”

-------------------------

“I’m going to kill you!”

That was Ryo’s way of talking to people.

Shige panicked, “What did I do!?”

“Nothing! I’m just talking to you!”

Jin was standing by the door laughing when Pi walked in and promptly got a hand clamped over his mouth. He looked at his friend questioningly but shrugged it off and watched the scene unfold before him.

The youngest singer was looking around for an escape or someone to save him. Unfortunately for him, there was neither, he shrunk back a bit, “don’t talk with such an angry voice!”

Ryo frowned, “I’m not! Do you like Pi!?”

Shige blinked, “What?”

“I said do you like Pi!?”

He closed his eyes and gave what he hoped to be a good answer, “Yes! Yamashita-kun is very cool!”

“Wrong answer,” Jin muttered under his breath.

“I’m going to kill you!”

“What!? No! I hate Yamashita-kun!”

Jin gave a soft scoff, “Wrong answer again.”

The Osaka man’s brows furled, “What? What’s wrong with Pi!?”

“Nothing! I like him in a member love way!”

There was a long silent pause, “oh…okay.”

And because Shige wasn’t dumb, he caught on, “…you like Yamashita-kun?”

Ryo shook his head, “No! No I don’t!”

“Oh…I get it, you’re in denial.”

Jin sighed, “…wrong answer again.”

“No I’m not! I’m going to kill you!”

The younger man let out a wail, “I don’t get it! Are you still just talking or are you actually going to kill me this time!?”

-------------------------

Kame looked over from swinging, “Did that work?”

“No…Pi just found it touching that Ryo-chan would stand up for him like that.”

The other laughed, “Your ideas don’t seem to work all that well, do they?”

He chuckled and shook his head in agreement, “No they don’t. But my third plan worked.”

“What’d you do?”

“I went with my own style.”

The waited was smiling at him, “your own style?”

Jin nodded, embarrassed, “it’s not really cool or anything…it’s just me being stupid. ‘Akanishi Jin’s Stupid Style’. I panicked, I told Pi that Ryo-chan got hit by a truck and then I told Ryo-chan that Pi was being groped and possibly raped by fangirls, they met up and bam, they were yelling each other and ended up saying really embarrassing things, and I watched.”

The other looked at him incredulously, “That worked?”

He grinned proudly, “Well, they’re together now, so yes it did. And yea, that’s the end of my story, I can’t believe we spent half our date telling you that.”

“Why? I liked it,” he gave a smile, “thanks for telling me.”

“No problem,” he answered automatically. “Still can’t believe we spent half our date on this story…”

“You left out the part where we were running from the paparazzi.”

“Oh yea, that too, we spent half our first date running and telling stories. I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be, I thought it was great.” The waiter blinked and looked up at him as he swung his feet and went higher, “Why are you swinging so high?”

Jin shrugged and watched him as he moved backwards, “well I've always wanted to fly, and for the moment, this is as close as it gets…I’ll fly one day, but for now, this is my way of flying.”

Kame smiled fondly and looked at the ground, “that’s just like you…”

“What?”

The other shook his head, “nothing.”

After a moment of silence, his brain had decided to throw out anything cool or witty he had planned and resorted back to his stupid style, “let’s go back to my place to you know…”

The waiter stared at him, looking more than a little shocked, “…what?”

“I-I meant ‘you know’ as in not to you know, but to you know,” after a lot of loops and unnecessary information, he finally said, “…to listen to the song! That’s what I meant! …there you go; you’ve just experienced ‘Akanishi Jin’s Stupid Style’.”

Kame gave an amused grin, “alright, let’s go, before those guys with the cameras get here.”

Jin looked over to where the other was pointing and leapt off his swing, he laughed and held his hand out to the other, “let’s go!”

They fled, hand in hand.

-------------------------

On the way there, he could hear the other humming something softly. Faintly, he managed to pick up the melody line, “is that what Kizuna sounds like?”

The waiter blinked and looked over, “you heard? Yea,” he gave a small nod, “well that’s how it sounds in my head anyways.”

Jin smiled, “Sing it for me when we get back to my place, I want to hear it.”

Kame studied him for a moment before deciding that the request was genuine, he dipped his head and replied in a shy voice Jin had never heard before, “sure…”

He found it very endearing.

-------------------------

When the door to his apartment opened, they stepped in; Kame blinked and looked around, “this is surprisingly normal, and by normal, I mean bland.”

“Yea, my mom picked most of the furniture out, I couldn’t decide on anything.” He walked over and picked up his guitar and plopped onto the couch, “sit here.”

The waiter did as he was instructed and sat beside the other, “What’s it called?”

Jin looked over and blinked, “Huh?”

“You didn’t write the title in the card.”

“Oh, I guess I forgot,” he strummed the first chord, “it’s called care.”
