A message in the woods [RP for ban_fathach]

The woods around them were silent except for the sound of the two wolves breathing. Their howls of pleasure chased all but the bravest creatures far away and those precious few certainly weren't going to make their presence known for fear of ending up the way the deer had ( Read more... )

He grunted at the heavy weight of her head on his belly, a leg kicking absently. After a moment, he shifted and rolled toward her, forcing her to lift her head again.

Growling sleepily, he pawed at her. Lass? What's wrong?

She whined again at the loss of her perch and shifted reluctantly so her head was on his side. Nothing, nothing. She licked at him. I didn't mean to bump ye. Was just thinking of getting back on that train.

He forced an eye open and looked at her, giving her the tiniest bit of a wolfy smile. Now, lass, why ye be thinkin' o that. That's just torture and ye'll give us both indigestion.

She caught his expression and gave him a very light nip. Ye've a stomach of cast iron, but I'll think of other things. She turned her head and licked low on his side, as close to his leg as she could reach. 'Tis a lovely spot we found, after all.

Once he knew that she meant ghosts, he changed. He was tired of their peace being shattered, his anger forcing him upright, his teeth bared in the sudden surprise pain that accompanied the transformation.

Panting, he snarled roughly in the direction she'd indicated.

She got even lower, hiding behind the carcass. All she heard was his anger, the sound bringing back all her guilt for the conflict her 'gift' caused. I'm sorry, Jacob. They'll go, in time.

She knew, though, that was a lie and slowly lifted her head again. Three had been joined by another two, both women. They were much closer now. I can ask them to go.

He nodded slightly. "Ask." He unclenched his fists but continued to pant roughly. He knew they were there on a mission from the shades, but that didn't mean he wanted them interrupting his meals.

She forced herself up on all four paws, making herself stand without leaning against him. By the time she opened her eyes again, there were even more. Some changed form, the silver bodies altering just as any living pack member's did.

She started forming the words in her mind, then shook her head. There were so many, some bearing bunches of flowers. Jacob, they...they've come to greet us. I think

He slept deeply, soft snores coming from him. His dreams were filled with the images of a Pack of shades, and pups running everywhere. The images were disjointed, at times, and caused him to twitch and whimper in his sleep.

Her dreams were more pleasant, though no more concrete. She woke pressed hard against him with her head worked under his. The last thing she remembered was a version of a dream she had often. She ran with their pack, finally carefree and certain they would stay with her no matter what came next.

Her eyes fluttered open and she sighed softly. So beautiful.

Her voice touched his mind and he grunted softly. Aye, lass, ye are. He didn't open his eyes, but he did shift some to press against her.

She groaned loudly in his mind, loudly enough that it was as if she were right against his ear. Yer impossible, man, just impossible.

She slowly stretched her paws out ahead of her. I meant my dream, ye big bully.
