Mystic Falls, VA | Thursday Evening [FHT]

Sep 13, 2012 06:38

It was boredom that had driven Jake to cooking that evening. Caroline had taken off on some sort of emergency intervention which he was pretty sure involved some kind of Elena-Damon crisis that he didn't want to know about. Liz was bound to be out for the rest of the evening as she had a late shift, which left him alone in the house ( Read more... )

Lucky for Jake or not, Liz had found her way back to the house a little earlier than expected. It was nice when cases didn't involve getting the coroner to make up a cause of death other than by vampire, and there seemed to be fewer of those sort of cases around town since the start of summer. If that was a little weird, Liz wasn't questioning it. Not yet.

She came in through the side door, her nose pulling her toward the kitchen first thing. Damn but she loved that Jake cooked. It was like he made up for her and Caroline's failings. "Now I'm really glad I didn't stop for something on my way in. Assuming you're making enough for three?"

"I'm probably making enough for twice that," he grinned up at Liz, feeling even more domesticated now. "I thought I'd make enough so we can freeze some in or just eat more later this week when we're feeling lazy."

"Mmm, homemade sauce," she leaned over his pots to see how far he'd gotten in the process. "And you're doing all this by yourself?" Now she felt like she should be helping somehow.

"Well, my imaginary friend was helping," he joked while he retrieved the lettuce and tomatoes from the fridge. "Do you want in on this? I thought I'd make some to tide me over while I wait for the pasta to boil."

It was likely no surprise to Jake when his bedroom door creaked open late into the night, long after Liz's breathing had gone steady down the hallway.

Caroline moved stealthily to the side of his bed and gave his side a shove, wanting some space to crawl in with him. "I can't sleep," she mumbled, missing the comfort of his arms around her after a long, hard evening.

It really wasn't and after spending the evening feeling like some sort of intruder, or at least a voyeur, Jake didn't mind the company. He still grunted as Caroline poked him, though, that much was mandatory.

"Really? I thought you were sleepwalking," he murmured as he rolled onto his side so she could climb in.

She curled up against his side and made a face at him in the dark. "You could at least fake happy to see me."

"Why should I have to fake when I am?" he asked, his arm sliding around her as he shifted back on top of her.
