Some news has broken out about sequel series to a few popular anime series. Perhaps the biggest one, & the one still pretty much unconfirmed at this point, is a third season to the awesomely violent & cool
Black Lagoon. The first two seasons were dubbed by Geneon &
aired on Starz Edge earlier this year. Geneon managed to release the first series on DVD before they
went under, & now FUNimation will
take over the title & start releasing "the Second Barrage"
next month. & now a third series is supposedly in the works. But as already mentioned, this should be treated as a rumor for now.
UPDATE: Black Lagoon 3 now confirmed, woot!!
Aside from that, "Umineko no Naku Koro ni" (When They Cry - Seagulls), a sequel series to the Higurashi horror series, was also announced. Like the original Higurashi anime, this one will be based off the video game of the same name. The first season of Higurashi was also licensed by Geneon & will be getting a revival from FUNimation.
Finally, "Today in Class 5-2" (Kyou no Go no Ni) will be getting a new animated television series sometime this Fall. Based on the somewhat ecchi manga, the series already saw a 4-part OVA series adaptation back in 2006. We showed the OVA in its entirety last year on NebsTV, & it was a surprisingly good series. But now with a full-length anime series supposedly in the works, we'll get even more of 5-2 goodness to love.
