I don't know of any communities, but if you're interested in learning about healthy eating, I recommend starting with this book:

http://www.drannwellness.com/Details.cfm?ProdID=30&category=9

It's more of a thick magazine than a book, so it's easy to read and refer back to. The writing is extremely straight forward and easy to understand and is broken up by food group. So there are nutritional explanations and recommendations for meat, vegetables, grains, sugar etc. It also refers to the anti-inflammatory diet, which I like.

healthy eating really varies, since our bodies are all different. for instance i have friends who thrive on vegan diets, ovolactovegetian diets, mediterranean diets, mostly raw diets, etc, and many who only thrive on one sort and do poorly on ones someone else might thrive on. i thrive best on a modified paleo type diet ( ... )

This. I have a few friends who try to push me into a vegetarian diet, but my body does NOT respond to vegetable based protein. I was living on rice and beans for a while due to extreme lack of money and I could literally eat so much that I was going to throw up from the sheer volume and still feel like I was STARVING. I tried everything anyone could think of to make it more filling/palatable - and the ONLY thing that worked was when I finally loaded it up with sour cream. Had a moment of "huh, well, that kills my theory that my body thrives on animal-based protein, since that wasn't meat...". Yeah, about a day later I had some major headdesking when I remembered that sour cream is DAIRY, which is still animal-based.

Finally got a decent paycheck, and found that I could eat less than 1/4 the sheer volume and feel fine and satisfied - if it was meat based. Dairy will work, but not as well. It's just how my body is wired.
