Hi, this is a bit off topic so sorry about that (though if it needs to be deleted can you tell me so I don't just think its my internet going weird and post it again, haha

healthy eating really varies, since our bodies are all different. for instance i have friends who thrive on vegan diets, ovolactovegetian diets, mediterranean diets, mostly raw diets, etc, and many who only thrive on one sort and do poorly on ones someone else might thrive on. i thrive best on a modified paleo type diet.
so to start you'll need to figure out what sort of foods you thrive on, and that's not a one size fits all thing. you'll need to assess whether you do well on foods like animal proteins (some, none, certain ones but not others, etc), dairy, gluten (or other) grains, soy and/or other legumes, etc., and it takes time and experimentation.
but good basics include avoiding: processed foods, fast foods, gmo foods, hydrogenated fats, refined oils, factory farmed meats and produce, and instead focusing on whole foods prepared fresh.
if you have blood sugar or insulin issues, a diet low in sugars and starched (even ones that are healthy for people who don't have blood sugar or insulin issues) and with sufficient protein and healthy fats can be a very dramatic help in keeping blood sugar and insulin levels stable.
(i eat a grain-free, legume-free, fairly low carb, mostly paleo diet; i have celiac disease, react badly to legumes and several other foods, and overproduce insulin in response to any spike in blood sugar, so even natural sugars and starches aren't good for maintaining blood sugar control. for exercise i like the exercises from "strong women stay young", yoga, gardening, and using a sitting rebounder. if you're physically able-bodied, walking is wonderful.)
This. I have a few friends who try to push me into a vegetarian diet, but my body does NOT respond to vegetable based protein. I was living on rice and beans for a while due to extreme lack of money and I could literally eat so much that I was going to throw up from the sheer volume and still feel like I was STARVING. I tried everything anyone could think of to make it more filling/palatable - and the ONLY thing that worked was when I finally loaded it up with sour cream. Had a moment of "huh, well, that kills my theory that my body thrives on animal-based protein, since that wasn't meat...". Yeah, about a day later I had some major headdesking when I remembered that sour cream is DAIRY, which is still animal-based.
Finally got a decent paycheck, and found that I could eat less than 1/4 the sheer volume and feel fine and satisfied - if it was meat based. Dairy will work, but not as well. It's just how my body is wired.
