I suppose you've seen a doctor? These issues are beyond your usual "my skin is acting up."

not all doctors automatically reach for the "harsh chemicals."

I really haven't tried anything to make my skin better- I've just come up with ways to not make it worse. I briefly tried proactive for 2 weeks- face was slightly better but didn't keep up with it nor did it do anything for the rest of my issues.

I'm not seeing the need to go to a doctor when I've literally tried nothing else. Doctors are for emergencies- not for the minor skin problems of a vain girl.

This isn't necessarily true. If you're having a wide variety of issues with your skin, this can be signs of underlying health issues. (The idea of doctors being for emergencies only is what's gotten much of our country in it's current healthcare crisis - preventative medicine is a lot better, and less invasive, than curative medicine.)

I've bookmarked this as I can use most of their products (I'm allergic to shea, parabens & SLS's... fun times! LOL)

That's so good to know! It's so frustrating trying to find products I can actually use (especially since I'm allergic to some pretty common ingredients, even in natural products - like the shea). I'm definitely going to have to check them out. :D

My skin is HORRIBLE, especially on my jawline and especially leading up to my period. I do an herbal bar in the shower most days (designed by a local herbalist for acne) and on the days that doesn't work on its own, I follow it up with OCM - 67/33 and then a splash of tea tree oil in it as well. :D

Good luck!!

most people do the EVOO/castor oil thing- do you use different oils?

and is OCM used on anything other than face? I would have to say that my shoulders/neck/chest are similar to my face in oilyness, minus the flakiness.

So far, I've just done the EVOO & Castor Oil, then adding the tea tree to the bottle after mixing the other two. It's worked well so far. I do my face and, if needed, chest and neck as those can get pretty bad, too. :/

I've also had grapeseed oil suggested and have considered making up a small batch to check it out.

I've heard that jojoba is for more oily skin

I just don't know- some people swear by it, and others are long term hindered by it (like months of issues even after stopping)

if your face is both flaky and greasy, you may have seborrheic dermatitis. it doesn't always present with redness; i have it, and it manifests just like that. if you think that's the case, you could take antifungal lifestyle measures and see if those make a difference.

I hate things like that where the description is just broad enough to make you wonder if you have something. o-o

but my dryness is no where like that. It's more like the water only method I'm doing is still drying my skin, then my skin is most likely overproducing oil to return it to normal. So then I have a flake here and a flake there, especially on the bridge of my nose and between the brows. But I'm still oily. It doesn't really make sense to me because when I talk scalp on the no poo forums, water only is the epitome of what people aim for, because you're just rinsing the dirt off and leaving your skin balanced. but 2 inches south of my scalp, this is going on despite my water followed by acid method in the shower.

I would try a simple sugar scrub especially for your face - it shouldn't be harsh enough to flare up your pilaris, but it will get rid of your flakes and help with dullness. I use half white sugar, half water or EVOO depending on how lazy I am. Massage onto your face and neck in circular motions, let it sit for a moment or two, then wash off with cool water.

Do you use this every day? 3 times a week?

How does your skin feel with water/sugar vs oil/sugar?

Sorry! that would have been a good thing to include now wouldn't it? I use it a couple times a week all year long, though my skin gets a little flakier in the winter so I use it a bit more then.

I find water/sugar and oil/sugar to make my skin feel pretty similar. The oil is a little more moisturizing, but I'm not a fan of feeling oil on my fingers, so that's why I lean more towards being lazy and using water.

so you would recommend this all over the area as described above for dryness and dullness?

has it had any effect on breakouts/blackheads? just curious
