I really haven't tried anything to make my skin better- I've just come up with ways to not make it worse. I briefly tried proactive for 2 weeks- face was slightly better but didn't keep up with it nor did it do anything for the rest of my issues.
I'm not seeing the need to go to a doctor when I've literally tried nothing else. Doctors are for emergencies- not for the minor skin problems of a vain girl.
This isn't necessarily true. If you're having a wide variety of issues with your skin, this can be signs of underlying health issues. (The idea of doctors being for emergencies only is what's gotten much of our country in it's current healthcare crisis - preventative medicine is a lot better, and less invasive, than curative medicine.)
You might want to look and see if there's a teaching hospital in your area. If so, many need patients for their newbies to practice on, and they often offer discounted treatment prices. All the work is supervised, and you're helping to train the next generation of doctor.

The keratosis pilaris runs in my family and when my mother asked about it to her doctor, he didn't have any replies other than general exfoliation and lotion. like duh. As I mentioned above, my skin isn't actually that bad visibly except for the pilaris, which used to appear rash like to others.
I don't think going to the average doctor would get me anything but chemicals. I've known people with cystic acne and their meds- I don't have acne even close to that bad, it's just the general overall condition of my skin that I'm having issues with.
and my skin isn't really "acting up"- it's always been this way. It's just lately my bad diet has worsened it which has led me to the conclusion that I need to learn what I'm doing and take care of it or look like an old lady.
