Shadowwolf13 is right--it's as bad for you as it is. Whether somebody else has it worse is irrelevant to what you are feeling.

I find when I'm really knocked flat, as you have been, that it helps me to not look ahead at all. If I do, then getting through the day seems impossible. If I just take it minute by minute, step by step, in little bits, it seems to work better.

I wish I could help. All I can say is I know the pain of losing a special cat. It sucks.

I lost my 16-year-old cat last August, and I had a similar experience: the worst part of grieving was the sense that it should feel less consuming and catastrophic in comparison to other kinds of trouble.

The pain of losing a love is not amortized based on the number of their feet.

THIS. This is the best phrase ever.

I know, I know, that I have every right to feel however I need to feel, and yet I still feel like I shouldn't be as dysfunctional as I am.....because I know it could be so much worse, that friends are dealing with worse, that I will someday face worse, and that I have faced worse before.

Oh, let me tell you. I have been dreading my clinic appt tomorrow, because though I'd really, really like to go and make my case about getting my old birth control back so my skin will clear up... I can NOT stifle the voice in the back of my head that says, "Oh gee, Miss Thang, a fricking spate of earthquakes and some tsunami action for good measure, whamming this whole region of the Pacific Rim and leaving thousands of people dead, and YOU'RE worried about some volcanic activity on your forehead and your jawline?! Go eat some more soy and STFU! You DESERVE to look as pockmarked and petty as your heart clearly is, in this time of widespread woe."

I know it could be worse. But in my case at least, I know there's a simple solution and I'm just going ( ... )

Gentle memo to both Sanat and Naamah:

Comfort is not a zero-sum game.

You're both being thought of.

I want you to do something as close to fun and/or self rewarding as possible. Do it. If you start to feel like you "should" be doing something else, tell that voice to fuck off because you're doing a favor for a friend.

I will be giving you real-life hugs in two months. I am sending you a lot of love.

Would clicky-links be at all helpful? This one always makes me smile; it's even SFW because all the dirty/profane things are in the mind of the viewer, not the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-Wd-Q3F8KM Warning: the song may get stuck in your head.
