SUP dumps some US LiveJournal staff.

Nobody has any idea what this means for the future of this site.

There are a number of things you can do if you're worried about LJ folding and you losing all your entries.

Same here, as in I have an insanejournal with the same name that I will only be using if LJ pushes daisies.

I hope LJ sticks around. It's a handy place to have all my reading on one page.

Yeah, I'm worried, but I'm not that worried. It does suck that they offered the employees no severance, which is really the part that bothers me and worries me the most.

The whole point of layoffs is that "it's not your fault we can't afford to keep you on." Severance packages are nice when they can happen, but are not required.

Do you know of any good LJ backup tools that back up comments, and can work on platforms other than Windows?

There is one! I don't remember what it is, but I did use it to port things over to InsaneJournal once upon a time.

Wow, if I was one of those suckers who bought a "permanent" account less than a month ago, I would be pissed. I was going to renew my paid account for another 6 months this week; but it looks like I shouldn't bother, huh?

I crosspost almost everything I write on my (FO) eljay to my (public) WP blog so I'm not freaking out, but a world without LJ still seems weird to contemplate.
