Nobody has any idea what this means for the future of this site.

There are a number of things you can do if you're worried about LJ folding and you losing all your entries.

Do you know of any good LJ backup tools that back up comments, and can work on platforms other than Windows?

I don't know, but hopefully one exists and someone will point it out.

There is one! I don't remember what it is, but I did use it to port things over to InsaneJournal once upon a time.

I'm compiling a list, which I'll post here after dinner. (Mac user myself, so I understand the frustration with M$ platform-preferential tools.)

ljdump works on any machine that has Python installed (which includes all OSX Leopard machines, and possibly earlier versions of OSX though I wouldn't know). It backs up comments and private entries. The only thing it doesn't back up is userpics; you have to download those separately, though the entries do indicate which userpic should be associated with them.

And yes, PYthon has come standard on OS X since at least Panther. I don't know about prior to that.

I have my userpics already, so it's no problem.
