It was really, really nice to see Heath again. Even as the Joker. And what a performance. Jesus Christ, that was creepy. It was not him. Heath was gone. At no point, none, did he remind me of any of his characters, of himself, anything ( Read more... )

I liked the way that the suit wore Wayne, in this particular film. It seemed to fit in with the other character conflicts going on.

And I cannot, ever, imagine them topping Ledger as the Joker. I just ... can't.

I think it would be unwise for anyone to try it live action for at least 10 years.

If they think they can bring the Joker back for the next movie, with someone else in the role, the results are not going to be pretty.

I heard they were thinking Depp, but checking with a lot of different actors...

And as for the movie, I quite liked it. Bale's 'husky' batman voice kind started to grate on me a bit but I understand the reason for it. Just sounded too much like William Adama from Battlestar Galactica, though. Threw off my groove.

Heath was... absolutely fucking amazing though. I kept trying to 'find' him in the Joker, but he really was not even there. A couple times - particularly in the jail scene - I could briefly separate him from the Joker appearance-wise, but even then it wasn't like I was seeing Heath. I was seeing the Joker who'd like... body-snatched him or something. Very eerie.

I think Depp could do an awesome Joker, if they do a film that doesn't try to be the most recent Batman one.

He was damn good. Animated!Joker is still my favorite--I liked the balance they struck there, because the way I see it you're supposed to find him damn funny until you realize the body count's going up into triple digits ... and then you're still going, "Okay, yeah, but he did it in style." But Heath's performance was so wonderfully, threateningly bonkers.

I cracked up at the glowing white eyes. And also that they actually put in the exit the Joker seems so fond of--the Wile E. Coyote homage fall. (Sure, he didn't hit the ground, but this isn't some cartoon, after all! Batman is SRS BUSINESS!) Oh, how that muffka loves him some Looney Tunes.

I have a whole commentary on him as a trickster god and how it relates to Heath, but instead of repeating it I've just been linking to my entry on it. So I'll do that!

I don't think there's spoilers for anything but visuals, there.

I agree. there's nothing spoilerish about the entry.

My God, though. You're right, Heath was just...wow. It does hurt, though, when I wonder what might've been if he'd lived to his 80s. I think of all the actors I like, who are actual actors and not just hotties who get hired because the directors and producers want eye candy or Big Names, and Heath blows every one of them out of the water. Morgan Freeman, Johnny Depp...all of them.

Having anyone else play the Joker after Heath would seem wrong. It was so perfect.
